No, because if you look at a lot of their review scores there's a very clear bias with all of them, especially the 2 I mentioned.

I applaud the step in the right direction. It will help solve the main problem that is the lack of standard were the same guy will score games that are about equal on most aspects with quite discrepant score.
I don't care about reviews and scores, i Just see how the game plays and look and decide how much it is worth and wait price to reflect it.
And their recommended isn't a 7-9 game. It could be quite flawed game in several aspects and although the game wouldn't score in that área it still should be played for its redeeming characteristics.
Funny that some people are accusing an userbase of liking this direction because their worse than his company of choice games won't have scores. Isn't that a bad posture on this discussion?

You know, at this rate there will be no scores! :D

I don't know, wouldn't you agree Metacritic as a combined aggregate of gaming /10 reviews generally is pretty accurate in terms of what you can expect with a games quality? if it's not broken, don't change it |
It probably would be if the scored weren't weighted and some sites didn't post clickbait scores.

So? They shouldn't be on Metacritic because they sometimes have different views and opinions? Besides, every site/reviewer is "biased" in some way and that's fine, because you just can't be "unbiased" when it comes to something so subjective like videogame-critisism.

In terms of things like genre, of course there will always be a bias, but having a system that clearly rates games lower if they're on a particular platform is absolutely ridiculous. If you don't think that a site like AV Club giving UC3 a 5/10 while giving Gears 3 a 10/ 10 shows a clear bias, there's some clear denial there.

Those games have been reviewed by different people.
While i can respect what they're trying to achieve with this, it's not going to have the real world effect they're hoping for. It only takes a brief glance at their review section to see that the majority of games will get a "Recommended". That rank is just going to end up being treated the same as 7's and 8's currently are. If they really don't want numerical scores, a 2 rank system (Yes/No)) coupled with key point will do a better job than 3.

Which games - some examples? |
They gave DriveClub a 6/10 and Shadowfall a 7/10, though if you ask me, those scores are pretty much spot on.
"Games are changing so reviews should too"
Translation:
Games get worse and worse and we simple cannot give crap games a score like 8/10 anymore. Its getting to obvious. Today's 8/10 games were 7/10 games 5 years ago and 6/10 games 5 years prior to that.
So before we reach a point where even the dumbest people finally understand that the reviews dont make any sense we decided to drop the score system.
