I thought AMD/Global Foundries was going to use 14nm FINFET process this year.

That's more 2016.  AMD said they are going to use the 20nm now on consoles first.

Well, that would coincide nicely with a PS4 slim reveal next year.

This is getting into more complicated PC hardware territory, but should be mentioned that Samsung's 14nm isn't true 14nm.  It is 20nm with Finfets, and only Intel has true 14nm right now.

For the purposes of the type of silicon the consoles would use, 20nm is just about as good as 14nm FF.  If I had to guess Sony/MS will switch to 20nm this year, and then 10nm for the super-slims 3 years from now.  Those will probably be the final models as well since the PS5 will be right around the corner.

Well, my cousins rommates sister inlaw bought a WiiU.   So, the WiiU will win the Gen.

I agree that many people have bought a PS4 in the 1st year, as proven by the sales total.  But, it has been proven that in the last 90 days, that things have evened out in the US.  Sure, comparing sales totals of games released before the sales surge of the the XB1 will show the disparity.  How the multiplats perform when they don't have a "marketing deal" will show a little more.  Clearly, the PS4 has a stronger list of exclusives in the first 7-8 months and will have an obvious sales advantage for that period.

One thing to remember from last gen, is that lots of people like to buy both consoles(or all three).  So, by purchasing the PS4 first, doesn't mean they won't opt to buy the XB1 later.

As far as the $300 slim happening this year goes... Why?   Why would Sony release the slim and drop the price $100 when they are outselling the competition already?  They may release the Slim, but it might just be at $399 with a game or $349 with a game.  Sony needs every dollar that it can get and trying to win a meaningless console war is not reason enough to throw away the $$$.

Why release a $300 slim?  Because it would make them a ton of money.  I love how so many people think Sony is just going to roll over and let MS catch up.  They always release a slim around 2 years after the initial release.  Why would they not now?

Woa, what? The PS1 slim did not release in 1996/97 and the PS2 slim did NOT release in 2002. And as far as I cam remember, I don't think the PS3 slim released in 2008.

It's too early to really predict anything, but RIGHT NOW Xbox One is starting to sell more in NA. Personally, I believe that XOne will sell more in NA like usual, and PS will sell better in Europe and Japan like usual.

As usuaul? Hasn't MS only won the US market one time with the 360? Im pretty sure they lost to Sony every single time except for the PS3 vs 360.

Dead on. The natural order has been restored if nothing else. The return of the king.

The only one of those I think was sold at a loss was the ps3 slim cuz the asking price was to high, while they dominated a gen they never sold at a losss, no company wantsto sell at a loss and make it back in anything else, at the least they woud sell it at cost and Thats probably not going to happen. What I do expect this year is a $50 pricecut with a game and for the holidays they will add another 2 games(one new release and at least a year old game) but keep the price to $350.

That's what I was trying to explain to Captain Tom.  Why would sony drop the console price to cost or below and then add a game?  The advantage of bringing out the slim is that it creates a new interest in the console again.  THe PS4 doesn't have that problem at all.

It is near the end of the end....

Judging by the last two months of 2014, MS will definitely put up a fight. I still believe the PS4 will come out on top though since it sells great throughout the whole year. Sony just needs to be more competitive during the holidays. That GTA/TLoU bundle would've caused a lot of damage if it was available since the beginning of Nov. for $399.

prediction going strong
