Considering how bad the 360 spanked the PS3 in the States last gen and the fact that the current gap between the PS4 and the X1 is at a mere  500k units despite the X1's slow start compared to the PS4, I wouldn't be so sure. The PS4 might eventually win North America in the long run, but it definitely WILL NOT be easy.

This ain't like a couple generations ago where the PS2 was dominating due to all the 3rd party exclusives and the original Xbox was the Halo machine and not much more.

If nothing else, the US should be a reminder that the slate starts clean each new gen. The PS2, "spanked", the Xbox in the States, and it's as if that never mattered last gen. Though the gap is a lot closer, right now, there's no doubt that Microsoft lost a lot of 360 customers to the PS4. I agree that it won't be easy, but what the 360 did last gen, for the most part, doesn't really matter. The current gap is where it is because Microsoft threw a whole lot at the situation, not because the 360 lead the gen prior.

While that's somewhat true (except in PS1 and 2's case which both led North America in back to back gens), on the flip side of that the current gap is also where it is mainly due to M$ shooting themselves in the foot with all the negative PR and choosing to launch the X1 at $100 more than the PS4, not because of how much better the PS4 is perceived to be than the X1 in terms of hardware and software.

Had M$ not tried to push the "always connected" aspect of the X1 and launched it at $399 sans-Kinect alongside the PS4, odds are it would have been in the lead in North America even before the holiday sales, especially when you consider the fact that despite the higher price point and PR controversy, the X1 was still neck and neck with the PS4 just after launch at the beginning of 2014.

M$ has done a pretty good job of weathering the PR storm and making the X1 more competitive, and going forward both the X1 and PS4's sales will be very even in North America on a week to week basis, with the difference being whenever a high profile exclusive is released on either console, and only then the difference will be moderate.  You won't see a difference of more than 20k-30k or so between the two consoles in the NA region.  Even for the first two weeks of January so far in the dead of winter, the X1 has still been either even or ahead of the PS4 in weekly sales, and since then M$ went back and dropped the X1's price back to $350 permanently, so it will have a perpetual $50 price advantage over PS4 for the forseeable future.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

We'll get much bigger gaps than that and I think you'll find that when NPD is released, the XB1 won't have won any week this January. Amazon (with a 100% record) has shown this clearly.

I don't think it's all entirely because they threw a "whole lot" into it. I think a good portion of it is MS knowing the US market (COD exclusive marketing/DLC). They're better at marketing in the US and their AAA games are all designed with the US in mind. They're just better than Sony when it comes to their home turf.

The interesting part is how much better Sony knows the US than MS knows Japan. Either that, or MS just doesn't give a shit. But who knows.

I don't think Microsoft is, "better", at anything US related, they just focus on it more than Sony. Obvious reasons, Sony's biggest turf is untouched by anybody.

That doesn't make sense though. Why would Sony just CHOOSE not to focus as hard on the most lucrative market? Don't you think that if they COULD spank MS, they would? What reason do they have not to do something like that?

It will win but not by a landslide.

It will be way to easy for ps4 to dominate the US.

For the halo vs uncharted debate
The is no uncharted to satisfy some fans on the ps4, while almost all halo games have been remstered for the x1, so there are more people waiting to get a ps4 for uncharted 4 then there could be people waiting for halo 5 for an x1.

For those who say x1 will take what ps4 took on hollidays
Do you honestly think sony will let what happened last holliday to happen again? Get real. This year we already have last of us bundle and bloodbourne waas anounced, those are 2 bundles tht will most likely last the year and others will be anounced as well, along with the expected pricecut coming this year and this is all aside from what ever deal sony has planed for the hollidays,

Snowball effect anyone?
Friends make other friends buy their console and sony has more out there, this also influenses publishers like we seen for street fighter, mortal combat, bloodbourne and others to choose ps4 as their lead platform or go completly exclusive, this will give them so much variarity on xclusives while ms will focus on shooters nd sports.

Anybody remember te windows 10 conference?
They already anunced fable will no longer be an exclusive and more are coming, they had already lost dead rising, son of rome and plants vs zombies and im wlling to bet that after a year halo 5 will come to windows, so they will have less and less reasons to own a x1.

Power diference.
No need to say more.

World wide apeal to developers.
While this only seems to be at the moment with japanesse devs going sony exclusive, as the gap over te world increases some EU devs will go the same route and give even more third partys exclusives to the ps4, or ms will have to pay to much for some exclusive deal or just to get the same expirience, wich will meke them even less prifitable and give even more reasons for shareholders to drop the xbox.

MS anticonsumer policies.
While true that a lot of people have forgoten them, some are still not so forgiving. This has resulted already in early adopters getting a ps4 wich have jumped from 360.

360's final years ouput.
A lot of 360 fans have to remember the lack of titles releasing on the last years and sony pumping great games still then finishing up with the masterpiece wich was the last of us. I know some think shooters are the only thing the US cares for, but sony has the shooters at a better resolution and sometimes framerate while they also have all the other games that x1 will never have. Even if in they future they get interested in nother genra, with ps4 they will be ready.

Not that many multiconsole owners.
This wont be like last gen thAT a lot had every console, thi time they share almost all the games but sony has them at better quality and to make things worst they will get a lot more exclusives then th competition, so if people have a x1 they might get a ps4 down the road, but I see almost no reason for people with an ps4 to even consider a x1. But everyone should always get a wii u :p still hoping it gets second place.

Umm...what?

A lot of gamers from all over the place said that they wouldn't buy a xbone because of their attempt with used game and online only policies. A price cut and a few free games later, alot of americans forgot all about it or all is forgiven. Hence the main reason why I think the xbone will win the states.

I think forgiving is the more better term, I don't think most will forget about the online policies but it won't stop them from buying the Xbox One.

Because the US is not the only important market. Europe is arguably as large as the US and the ROW market is growing. Look at Playstation's presence in the Taipei Game Show. Having a strong worldwide presence is obviously much more important than capturing one market, despite how big it may be. You want to appeal to as many demographics as you can.

The X1 was getting spanked before the price cut. A 1.1 million deficit prior to November is pretty big and Microsoft had to pull out its guns in order to prevent the PS4 from hitting the point of no return. Yes, the PS4 got outsold during the holidays, but it was not enough for Microsoft to win the year. This year will be no different. The PS4 has a much stronger and more evenly distributed exclusive lineup. The Order in February, Bloodborne in March, MLB 15 in March, Toukiden Kiwami in March, and Omega Quintet in April. Other exclusives such as Ratchet & Clank Redux, Tearaway Unfolded, and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD may come out in the first half, too. They'll likely be out in May since there aren't any exclusives that are coming out that month. Sony also has exclusive marketing with Mortal Kombat X and Batman: Arkham Knight.

Sony will be more prepared going into this holiday season and thus, the PS4 will not be outsold as much. Not to mention, Sony still has a price cut in its back pocket just in case. Microsoft will need to work way way harder than Sony to win the US. Sony's gameplan, on the other hand, is quite simple: don't get outsold be a whole lot during the holidays.

There will come a time when some people who only own one console will want both. Especially when things like Halo5, a slim console, and Win10 integration release.

1. Slim console won't really mean much, since Sony will have one of their own.

2. I doubt Win10 sways anyone toward a particular console.

3. I'm sure halo 5 will move some systems, but it won't be swinging any pendulums, either.

I dunno, I want a new UI.  I like the current UI, its just not responsive enough a lot of times.  setting up party chat and inviting friends when in a game is just so slow compared to the 360.  I feel when they have their next UI overhaul, it will be around the time Win10 releases.

A slim console will make much more of an impact for the XBO because it is so much larger than the PS4, at least thats what I'm thinking.  Plus MS advertises like crazy in the US.  A month ago I was at a STL Rams game, and the XBO logo is just everywhere on the screens where the audience is at.  Then at the Superbowl it was nothing but MS and Surface advertising during non-commercial breaks.  Not seeing much Sony advertising lately aside from The Order 1886.

I also think the slim console from MS will happen much much sooner than it did in the 7th gen.

It's winning on Amazon, Gamestop, Best Buy, and other major retailers even with the Xbox One's price cut. Anecdotal but more and more people where I live (United States) are buying PS4s despite the fact that they previously owned Xbox 360s. The PS4 is already winning against a cheaper Xbox One, when PS4 gets a price cut it will be much, much worse.

Allready the thread is proven false.

You said "easily". PS4 is not winning "easily". I mean, if this was 2014 you may be accurate but 2015 is different.
