Forums - Gaming - Pewdiepie Complains against Nintendo Youtube Policy

Anyone bashing pewdiepie because of this obviously isn't looking at the bigger picture. It has nothing to do with him being greedy. What nintendo is doing now with the policy is bad for all youtubers, especially up and coming ones. Watch the Boogie video, and you'll understand the situation better.

Btw, those saying pewdiepie (plus most other youtubers) do not upload much nintendo footage to begin with, should realize maybe if nintendo didn't have such shitty policies, they actually might.

Okay, I read the article and decided I half-agree with what he said.

Nonetheless, it's PewDiePie and he should never be taken seriously. So, I give Nintendo a +1 because of this.

Pewdiepie's views on Youtube dance circles around Nintendo multiple times. Seriously. Piediepie has Thirty-four million people subscribed to his channel. Nintendo hasn't even broken a million yet. Thats more people than Nintendo have owning their consoles by multiples. Really? He can'tbe taken seriously? LOL wow, bro.

... and that is sad!

Hitler had the majority of german people voting for him in 1933... having followers isn't the same thing as having legitimacy or being right.

He is famous for a proportion of youtube users, so what, does it make him a a good guy, someone who is always right??? Again Hitler is one of the most prominent persons in world history, does that make him right or a good fellow???

Most of his followers are like 12, that shows a lot about the good judgement of most of his followers... listening Bieber & watching PDP!!!

Sure, but how many of those viewers are going to buy the game if they saw it on PewDiePew's channel? Advertisement isn't just about the total numbers. It is also about efficiency.

I would definitely credit Youtubers for the growth of PC gaming in this day and age. Its turned PC gaming into a more connected community (as well as console gaming). As I told someone else earlier, PewDiePie has thirty-four million subscribers and Nintendo hasn't even broken a million. If he speaks on the subject, everyones going to pay attention whether they love him or hate him because hes the standard. Seriously, it doesnt matter what category of entertainment on Youtube, the man is the standard.

You didn't address my statement about efficiency though. Just because more people see an advertisement doesn't mean that said advertisement will sell more games. It is also about how effective the advertisement would be. You kind of used PC gaming as an example, but one would argue that there are no advertisers of PC gaming, so it was an industry that would've benefitted much more from a celebrity than an industry that already had advertisement (console gaming.)

Just saying, if I wanted more 12 years to buy my games i'd put them on pewdiepies channel.

He's only played two Nintendo games on his channel and they were both ROMs on the Project64 emulator. So basically, he's annoyed at Nintendo for not being able to make money off games he didn't buy?

Entitled Youtubers need to expire.

What the hell are you talking about? He doesn't play Nintendo games so it's not about the money. He's saying this because he's the most subscribed youtuber and he does have influence, it doesn't matter if you don't like him or not. He is standing up for the smaller gaming youtubers. It's also a disgusting thing what Nintendo is doing, if you say good things about Nintendo we will give you 100% of the ad revenue, wow.

None of this answers my first question though. Why haven't the Indie games succeeded as well as mainstream games if PewDiePie (and others like him) is(are) so influentual?

Minecraft, Flappy bird, Slender, Happy Wheels and many other games became huge because of youtube. And no one is saying that youtube advertisement is better than conventional advertisement or that it works the same way everytime, by the way. Sometimes the advertisements helps a lot, sometimes it doesn't help much or at all just like all advertisements.

Most people don't actively choose to watch advertisements, generally they ignore them or skip through them. They watch shows, but shows serve to be advertisement for products. If peoeple are watching someones channel about a certan game and they are on the fence, that is good press. There are advertisers of PC gamers. Look up your favorite PC gamers with large followings and you'll see what I am talking about. Maximilian is becoming the biggest hype man for fighting games, to the point where Microsoft has even hired him to work on their story. Hes that much of a fan. When he hypes of games crowd of people watch if they are interested. Hype if its real on a person who has the charisma can sell it could mean possible dollars. Its not always certain, but its most definitely possible.

Nintendo is showing their age. Screwing with Youtubers is only going to piss off the younger gamers. Then again...Nintendo was never considered the "cool" console in any era, even when they ran third party in the 90's with an iron fist. This is exactly why third parties have so much animosity with Nintendo. They are a "my way or the highway" type of company.

Angry Joe's fans bought him a Wii U to do reviews and Nintendo flagged his videos almost the second he put them up. This was his response to Nintendo.

I asked u to think about fashion because there are a lot of similarities.
advertising in general is about selling emotion. Passion, confidence, fun, security, haute.
billions are spent getting the audience to feel an emotional connection to a product.
thats why so many ads nowadays feature "blind taste tests" with real citizens and experiences.
like games nowadays, people dont trust paid ads or reviews as much.
lets plays accomplish this because they sell an emotional experience. A bond that you and your own friends can share.
look at the wii success.
simply watching a screen woild result in a mom going "oh great more games..."
But then they see how fun it looks to play, and grandma does it and suddenly u have that advertisement.
in fashion people steal all the time. There's almost mo policing available but it has created countless styles. They pay people to wear them.
it is the fundamental idea of advertising. Exposure and emotion.
visual people will always be visual, but people buy cars to protect their family, to be reliable. Same with lets plays. People will buy games if an actual human looks like he's really enjoying it.

Question: If Let's Players are so influential, why aren't indie developers flooding in money and sales so much so that they can compete with top-tier developers because people like PDP play their games? This isn't to say that in some cases it isn't free-advertisement, but there are so many risks and considerations for companies that like to be in total control of their image. I can definitely see why big companies would look at it and say, "it isn't worth the free advertisement."

Reviews are advertisements. Some publishers even give hundreds of copies away to reviwers for free because they have a bae. Indie games dont have the marketing budgets of the large AAA's. They are designed to attract the largest crowd possible in this day and age, promising a large scale spectacle.

I don't agree. Reviews are not advertisement. It would only be considered advertisement to me if the company pays the reviewer to give a good review. Otherwise, a review is just a review, a separate thing from advertisement. Advertisement is created to look at the good parts and tell you that you should buy the product. Reviews are there to weigh the pros and cons and determine whether or not you should buy the product. There's a clear distinction there. Reviews are important to the companies because they know that advertisement only is showing what the company wants to show, but reviews are coming from a third party point of view so it's easier to trust them when they say it's good or bad.

Or not, if you have a little bit of good judgement & don't want to give undeserved power to an annoying kid who thinks the videogame market will disappear the day he stops making vids!

Empowering this sad narcissist boy is just stupid, even more than his garbage quality videos!
