I don't know. Honestly how many blockbuster franchises are born on unpopular console platforms to begin with? Pikmin on GameCube did well, but it wasn't some break out blockbuster.

Shenmue and Jet Set Radio tried very hard on the Dreamcast, but no dice.

Splatoon probably will sell about 1 million LTD if its lucky.

Even though I like that Nintendo is willing to take a risk and make it a new IP, I'm not entirely crazy with the art style being used (looks like a generic Cartoon Network animated series). It probably would sell 2x-3x more if it was called Mario Paintball.

Eh, no. Nintendo's marketing team is focused on Nintendo Directs that we don't even get.

I'm still looking at it as a wild card.  No idea how big it will be.  I think it will provide some sort of bump, but how much depends on so many factors.

I agree. It depends on many factors. How much advertising will it get? How will it be received by critics? Will there be Splatoon-specific amiibo? Will they keep supporting the game after its launch? What about bundles, or bonuses (a user mentioned a while ago that a Zelda U demo would make this game sell like hotcakes - to which I agree)? All of these questions (and more) must be taken into account. New IPs are almost impossible to predict when it comes to selling systems unless they have some sort of former history (like Bloodborne).

Was thinking about how he could be disappointed about the line up, then releaized this was close to launch. Launch blinds a lot of people lol. But yeah splatoon is a system seller imo

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

it can sell decent x number of consoles but not to the Smash/Kart levels. but Nintendo should market it properly and more advertisements about it. the name of the game is really marketing/advertising... set the correct expectations and people would love it.

it won't be that of a system seller but it can push enough hardware if marketed properly.

Yes it is.

I have great feeling about this game so we will see.

My mind has definitely changed due to recent news. I'm much more optimistic.

Nintendo has started to market the game indirectly (with the recent Press videos).

What they NEED to do is directly market the game to its consumers - not only word of mouth indirectly.

If Nintendo wants Splatoon to be a system seller, they'll need to do a Direct on it to show how the game could be "The next best thing" from Nintendo.

I don't blame them for being bad at marketing new IPs since consumers always react differently to them, no matter the target audience. But what they need is to get the game out. Get the game out.

Starting next week or so, give out little goodies every week until launch to maintain that hype and pass word of mouth and start marketing directly via YouTube videos and gameplay features that we still don't know much about.
