Let's say, hypothetically, that Naughty Dog subtly revealed in Uncharted 4 that Nathan Drake, is in fact, gay (or bisexual, whatever). Could this be acceptable and believable within the gaming community? Does Nathan Drake have the potential to be a character that has an attraction for the same sex? Does it make sense?

This isn't the first time it's been brought up. In fact, Destructoid made an article around the time of Uncharted 3's release discussing that Drake would be a "fantastic homosexual," afterwards listing off reasons why it would make sense and could be conceivable. But the real question is, would gamers buy it? Should they buy it?

Naughty Dog is no stranger to homoerotic content in their games. For example, in Uncharted 2, Drake's relationship with Harry Flynn can be seen as suggestive. In one cutscene, Harry hands Drake a gun and tells him "These things have a lousy range, so we still have to get in close. You okay with that?" as he slides very close next to him, while Drake smirks and takes the gun. In another scene, Harry welcomes him by saying "Hello, sailor." In Uncharted 3, he holds hands with Sully at Elena's request. In The Last of Us, the character of Bill is revealed to be gay after Ellie finds gay pornography stashed in his house (there is also a note to be found that implies Bill had a relationship with his "partner" Frank). Ellie, in the Left Behind DLC, was also revealed to be gay, showing her relationship with Riley. So, if Drake being gay came to fruition, it would be consistent with Naughty Dog's portfolio.

I'm not asking if this should happen, or is it going to happen, I'm simply asking could it happen and would it happening be potentially believable to the gaming world? Would the gaming world cry out that Drake is a womanizer and straight and that is his character, or could they accept that his attitude and actions were simply a front and were his way of masking his insecurities of his own sexuality? After all, not every gay character has to be a stereotype.

Note: There are no wrong answers to this topic (although there can be hateful answers). There are valid points on both sides, and I would like for discussion to be respectful and polite.

Extra Note: I am not saying that Drake should be gay. I don't really care what he is. It was a simple question of if he was. Just wanted to clarify for people that don't read everything or read incorrectly.

I'm sorry, but this much effort to prove if someone is gay or straight is just pretty much pointless.

god i hope not

Believable? I mean I guess. Anyone can be gay and I don't know a lot of gay people that actually fit the stereotypes.

As far as the story goes and how it affects sales, I don't necessarily see it as relevant to the plot unless he found a romantic interest or there was some other creative way to introduce it. The "gay" trope - no offence to anyone - is kinda getting overdone and is being used as shock value to get media attention instead of enhancing the storytelling. If he is gay, I would want them to introduce it in a way that has never really been seen in any sort of media. I don't think sales would be affected one way or another - for every person that wouldn't buy it because of it, I'm sure someone else that wouldn't have gotten it otherwise would buy it.

I'm not trying to prove that Drake is gay. I'm just asking if it would be believable in the eyes of gamers and if it's even a possibility. I don't care either way.

I don't think so. I mean, he has a relationship with Chloe and Elena. Hell, he marries Elena so at this point, knowing what we know, it would not make any sense. It wouldn't upset me, it just would not make sense, this late in the franchise.

It could happen and it would certainly be great if it did! Cause if Nathan Drake is revealed to be gay, than Lara Croft has a chance to be a Lesbian cause SE might counter ND with their own little, wow/message moment! Heck, we need more protagonists to be gay/lesbian! Emphasis on the lesbian

At this point, it wouldn't be beliavable anymore. I must admit I haven't played Uncharted 3 but judging by the first two, the anwer is no.

I know right. The world would be a nicer place if we had more video games with Lesbians imo
