Forums - Sports - Arroyo Valley High coach suspended for winning

Coach Chung needs to look at it from a positive side --- he could have been coaching the Knicks...

I hardly think he deserved a warning let alone a suspension.

Stupid athletic directors and their decision making... *finger wag*

So he got suspended for not showing sportmanship? Damn hippies.. If the other team can only score two points it doesn't matter what you do.. They would have probably still win by that margin if they played with 3 players.. Make a rule that you win a basket game when you have a 50 point lead.. Don't punish winners

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

“People shouldn’t feel sorry for my team. They should feel sorry for his team, which isn’t learning the game the right way,” Bloomington coach Dale Chung said.

Apparently learning how to deal with different defenses isn't part of learning the game the right way.

Chung said that Arroyo Valley (14-1) played a full-court press for the entire first half and led 104-1 at halftime.

“We only got the ball past halfcourt maybe four or five times in the first half,” Chung said.

Winners never play the right way, obviously they all cheat!

is this maybe a case of sexism? poor women shouldnt be beaten like brasilian football players, suspend the coach!

People are saying it's an issue of sportsmanship, but isn't it more like Chung who shows a lack of sportsmanship? Going by what happened, it does seem like Anderson wasn't trying to humiliate the other team. And winning isn't something you're supposed to feel bad about. Conversely, sportsmanship is usually brought up when people who lose react inappropriately.

Since I'm not huge into the sports world, I wasn't sure if I was missing something though. So I was curious what others thought about this.

Depending on the age there was generally a mercy rule to end games at an early stage if it was bad enough. Not sure why two teams of such vastly different quality were playing each other. Usually have divisions as this kind of game is pointless for both sides.

This is all confusing. Let me get this straight. The bad team played a good team. Got raped. Their coached bitched it wasn't fair? So the winner team's coach got suspended? The fork. Shouldn't the bad team coach feel more stupid in not teaching his team how to play better. Or was this done on purpose. To force bad, or new people what to expect. Either way, why did they even bother going to that high of a score.

The winning team should consider tournaments with much higher skilled team. While I disagree with the suspension, no one benefits from a game like that.
