Console exclusives are often used by people to try to convince others that their console is better than the other person's console. Its also the reason many people own a console, to play the games which they cannot play on other platforms. But which console exclusive of this century is the most revolutionary in its genre or in gaming as a whole? I limited the discussion to this century because I consider Super Mario Bros as the most revolutionary game in the whole of gaming.

Any game which was a timed exclusive for a console and later came to PC or to its successor can be  considered a console exclusive. But any game which later came to competing consoles or their successor cannot be considered console exclusive so no BioShock or Mass Effect.

GTA 3. Nothing post 2000 has had more impact on the industry and gaming.

Uncharted is definitely the winner here. Games are starting to use narritive and look how many games have been taking bits and pieces from it. Seemless cinematic storylines with great gameplay are a pedigree seldom seen before Uncharted. Uncharted took everything we already had before it and combined it into a seemless package which is revolutionary.

I don't think the Last of Us is revolutionary by any meeans. I just don't see it, sorry PS fans.

Halo and Wii Sports are revolutionary titles

Not really....those games aren't paving the way for other games in their genre. COD is setting the standard for its genre, and Wii sports is not going to be replicated anytime soon. The only game on this list that actually has had a easily repicated style which changed the way we view games development is Uncharted. It took the best from many places and put it into one game.

-Star Wars 1313 would've been the biggest game in recent memory for single player storylines

-Tomb Raider would've had no grounds for a rebirth without Uncharted

-The Last of Us

-The Order

Look at Halo and Assassins Creeds cinematic evolution in blending Cinematics with the realm theiy are in. Its easy to see who has revolutionized how we see storytelling  and camera tricks in gaming.

Metroid Prime.

I was going to put this, but this is only about games that are revolutionary.  Metroid Prime, TLOU and SMG are games that are more or less inspired by other games while not really impacting other future games.

If this were about the best game of the century then Metroid Prime would be no doubt my top pick.

Halo popularized and set the foundation of online shooters in console before COD and Wii Sports popularized motion controls, which many have imitated (even it was only for 4 years). What these titles have done have far surpassed what uncharted has accomplished. And COD4 nailed the cinematics before uncharted

Halo CE, I'd give Mario Galaxy a close 2nd.

Why Mario Galaxy? Imean, it's a fantastic game and certainly innovative, but how was it revolutionary? What games did it influence besides its own sequels?

Sorry meant Smash Bros,

See now here's where the discussion is getting a bit garbled: something can be revolutionary by influence without having an original bone in its body while another game can be highly innovative without having much impact. I would say Metroid Prime 3 was innovative, but not influential and therefore not revolutionary. The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim was not innovative really in any particular way, but it was a major factor in the sudden explosion of open world, RPG elements, and so on being popularized to the point of ubiquity. Just a thing to consider about definitions when discussing this.

Thats cool, but we're talking about revolutionary. Something people want to replicate for the progression of the industry, not popuarlized.

Has to be Halo: CE for making FPS just as popular on consoles as on PC's.

I think you missed the point. A revolution can happen in the popularization of something. Halo sparked the popularization of console online shooters, before Halo most were single player affairs with local multiplayer and online experiences were limited to mostly pc. Halo was the firt step in moving the consoles into the online space.

Motion controls existed before Wii Sports, but its commercials success has ingrained motion controls in the development of many games in the last 5-8 years and not to mention it expanded the gaming landscape beyong the enthusiastic. Before Wii Sports motion gaming was almost non-existant.

Honestly, I don't see how you can argue that these two games aren't "revolutionary".
