I think you missed the point. A revolution can happen in the popularization of something. Halo sparked the popularization of console online shooters, before Halo most were single player affairs with local multiplayer and online experiences were limited to mostly pc. Halo was the firt step in moving the consoles into the online space.

Motion controls existed before Wii Sports, but its commercials success has ingrained motion controls in the development of many games in the last 5-8 years and not to mention it expanded the gaming landscape beyong the enthusiastic. Before Wii Sports motion gaming was almost non-existant.

Honestly, I don't see how you can argue that these two games aren't "revolutionary".

Actually, a revolution is something that causes a fundamental change, since the whole point of it is to change the status quo of doing things. Halo brought PC style shooters to consoles, but they didn't necessarily copy Halo's style of doing things. Uncharteds style has been copied in numerous ways. Same thing with god of war....and if you don't believe me look at Star Wars the force unleashed and Dantes Inferno which were both successful hack n slashes in their own right. Assassins Creed was revolutionary...because without it we wouldn't have the batman arkham franchise nor Shadows of Mordor. What people in these convos need to separate is innovative and popular from revolutionary. They were revolutionary for the sandbox genre ontop of the revolution Grand Theft Auto 3 created after Super Mario 64. Super Mario 64 was the revolution for open world games on a console. Final Fantasy 7 was revolutionary for how JRPG's looked on consoles when games made the jump from 2D to 3D.

Super Mario galaxy has the most votes, but based on the definition of revolutionary, it isn't. No one has followed its lead. Doesn't stop it from being an innovative or popular game, but those things do not always lineup with revolutionary.

Isn't introducing and popularizing online multiplayer and motion controls into gaming a fundamental change? You are failing to see the bigger picture.

Has that mode become a standard outside of the online part? If it hasn't then it was just popular.

Did you play Halo? I played Goldeneye and Perfect Dark but Halo introduced fps to a broad audience and with it many, many fps on consoles followed. Of course we can argue that technical evolution helped, too, because before fps games were not that easy done on consoles but Halo had way more impact than the games before, no matter how you put it.

I think Goldeneye and Halo sold about the same with 8 million copies. I think Halo's big revolution was ushering the era of PC shooters making their way to consoles.

In fact, Goldeneye even sold more but it didn't have the same influence. Like I said, the technology enabled pc-like fps games on consoles since then so this helped, too. Not to forget that Halo was bought by MS, otherwise it wouldn't have been on consoles, so there also was a lot of talk about it.

True. Halo was going to finally make people see Apple as a contender in the PC gaming industry. Must've been a sad day for Jobs. True. PC games were coming slowly before then. I believe before that it was just Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem 64 and on the Dreamcast Unreal Tournament made its debute. Halo is such a tricky one to figure out when it comes to the word revolutionary, but you have a point. Halo is also responsible for the trend of midnight releases which happen often today.

Goldeneye sold similiar numbers to halo. Also goldeneye actually introduced control of the camera revolutionizing how a fps was played on condoles and.also revolutionized fps multiplayer.

Uncharted --- it revolutionized money hatting because Microsoft was so jealous = p.

More seriously though, Halo.

Doom was on consoles, it played just fine. There is nothing revolutinary about shooters in this day and age.
