Forums - Nintendo - Why the Death of Nintendo Would Do Gaming Zero Favors

I agree that the death of Nintendo would do us gamers no favor.

But what is so bad about Nintendo going multiplat, like Sega?

Nintendo is solely a video game company. Going third party would net them less cash than having their own hardware. This nonsense that Nintendo should drop the Wii U and start fresh is just that, nonsense. SEGA pulled the plug on three of their consoles and it’s what got them where they are today. Nintendo giving the Wii U the axe would do irreparable damage to the company and spit in the faces of those that bought the system.

How would going third party net them less cash when everyone can buy their games?

Just an example, let's say by end of this Gen, XB1 = 60m, PS4 = 100m. If dropped the Wii U prematurely and go 3rd party, that's 160m potential sales, not even counting PC gamers. Compare that to, maybe, 40m Wii U's by Gen's end?

I'm not saying that they should go multiplat, but it's definitely better than totally going out of the video game business.

I know I'd miss Nintendo games, but I can move on with or without Nintendo.

The article is clearly a fanboy one who hold Nintendo above all and have some points that are quite wrong or purely subjective (as nothing would necessarily make the ninty game worst from just being in a stronger machine, and ninty could sell controllers with the layout they please... But even so I preffer they keep making their console).

Anyway the main point is not debate. No one would really benefit (gamers mainly) of ninty deaths. And the sole benefit of they becoming 3rd party would be to save 200-300 on the console, but if you are so poor that you think this much is a problem (mind you I think 60 per game is high, even more when they drop so fast in price) should be working not playing and wishing a company goes under and thousands lose job.

I may not praise or value ninty over sony, but I certainly agree ninty is necessary, makes great games and brings variety to my collection.
