Brazilian here.

People here don't like to assume that but I think that because of Sony's easily-hacked PS1 and PS2, they got a great fidelization here in Brazil. You sum the lack of third support on Nintendo, so... No FIFA on Nintendo is a big minus for brazilians.

I really don't believe it is because of sales taxes besides its being really high.

On the matter of localization, Sony has rights over some dub houses here, so they can easily dub its games. Also, Microsoft as a tech company has a big office here, not counting its own XOne factory, so they can easily support their games and sell them really cheap.

I guess that if the market continues like it is right now (no hacks, that's what I'm saying), the XOne will get more attention here, PS4 will be close and Nintendo will fade.

We have a left wing government with a lot of weeds sucking out resources... so their solution to everything is raise taxes...

If the national industry have difficults fighting imports in the auto bussiness let's raise the importation to 100% (never lower the taxes for the national ones, or demand that they cut some of their 50-100% overprice), and that same principle is applied to everything here.

Can't Brazillian gamers just buy a good external hardrive for their Wii U and buy the games online? Sounds like the most reasonable solution in this situation, unless Ninty doesn't even have the option of buying Wii U games online, in which case, welp, time to move to the 'muricas.

There's no Brazilian eshop.

We just contribute to inflate Yukon (for a CA account) or Alaska (for a EUA account) populations, which is some provinces with low-taxes. It's only possible to buy on this eshops, since most WiiUs here are imported from the America region.

I can't, for the same reason Nintendo is leaving. High taxes. I guess I'll need other means to buy my games. :/

The thing is, Nintendo has never been interested in the Latin American market, hence why they are irrelevant today, or at least on what refers to their recent products, Wii and DS included. Just ten years ago, the N64 continued to be a very popular system in Mexico, coexisting with many NES/SNES clones, and despite of this little advantage over the competition, Nintendo never brought hype for the GameCube. Popularity was there, but Nintendo for many reasons didn't want to jump in. Now, and thanks to Microsoft's push for Xbox 360 and recent intervention from Sony, Nintendo is nothing in these places. Ancient players don't like them, children prefer to play Xbox and PlayStation, there's nothing left for them.

They are guilty of this situation as well.
