Sony at least has been trying.

They full localize for Brazilian-Portuguese and, in fact, the PS4 is not that expencive if you look at past generation games. R$4.000 is even less than the Xbox 360 inicial price here if you count inflation over the periode.

That's the thing, Nintendo just isn't interested in entering the Market like MS was back in 2006/2007 and later Sony.    Latin America is irrelevant for them.

I'd like to advice Nintendo fans from Brasil against trying to look for games in Uruguay now, prices and offer are even worse here.

Please don't try to defend Nintendo on this. Yes they do good games, the government sucks and tax are high. But the truth is that Nintendo don't care for Brazil at all and being almost twice the price of usa with minimun wage being like 1/3 they wouldn't sell good here when they fail in USA.

Nintendo cares so little about Brazil that I would say that the second most played system in brazilian history (losing to ps2) was Dynavision (famicon/nes kick-off). Since Nintendo didn't had the nes really selling here this company and others released a system that could read USA and japan nes cartridge or counterfeit ones (actually a HW lot better than any official nes). Mega Drive (genesis) with Tectoy was very competitive against snes from gradiente (Tectoy still manufactures genesis and master system here, Dynavision also make Dynacom)... Sony haven't officially released the ps1 to date (because of piracy (never saw an original disc in here besides a demo disc) but it likely outsold saturn and sn64 10:1 here.

They don't need to manufacture the console here they could license it as they done before. And you won't pay the import tax if you either stamp the discs here (and surely be good to translate/dub the games) or at least pack it here.

The real problem is that Nintendo can't have the same margins here that they have in other places. Their game on official stores being higher than competitors and 3rd parties is silly. They are just greed.

About their partner, please don't exempt Nintendo. They are responsible for the company they sign with. Everything they do here have ninty's approval or else they would be terminated. Do you think Nintendo that was able to control the whole market and policies during nes time aint able to oversee a subcontractor?

About logistic and distribution chain. Nintendo is on console markets for over 30 years so if they don't have a chain or trusted partners that is due to their own inneficience. Nintendo lost the strength it had during nes era continually because of their own incompetence, don't avert the guilty just to save the image of the company.

Why are the taxes so high on imports there?

To force companys to install factorys there, creating jobs for the brazzilians.

That's the theory, but the truth is that consumers get f**** hard. Protectionism sucks.
