Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo officially exits Brazilian market

Just saw it on neogaf.

Nintendo announced today ( 9) shall not distribute more games and consoles in Brazil. As of January 2015, the Gaming Brazil , Juegos subsidiary company of Video Latin America, no longer distribute Nintendo products in Brazil. The Gaming Brazil distributed Nintendo's products in the country for the past four years. "Brazil is an important market for Nintendo and home to many passionate fans but unfortunately challenges in the business local environment have made our current distribution model unsustainable in the country," said Bill van Zyll , Director and General Manager for Latin America Nintendo of America . " These challenges include high tariffs on imports that apply to our industry and our decision not to have a local manufacturing operation. Working together with the Juegos de Video Latinoamérica , we will monitor the evolution of the business environment and evaluate the best way to serve our Brazilian fans in the future . " Despite the changes in Brazil, Juegos de Video Latinoamérica remains the distributor of Nintendo for Latin America . " We are partners in Nintendo's distribution of its products in Latin America for 14 years and we remain committed to the brand. And while no other changes are planned for other markets in the region are in a position where we need to reevaluate our approach to distribution in Brazil, " explains Bernard Josephs , CEO of Juegos de Video LatinAmerica . " We will continue to monitor the environment in the country so that we can evaluate future opportunities ."

There goes the last hope I had for Wii Capoeira :(

I'm fucked. :/

It was already hard to find games here at the right prices.

The taxes on videogames and software are two times the ones on their PC counterparts due to poor regulamentation.

Fuck this stupid government. :(

I could have swore there was an interview about riggie bragging about entering the brazilian market and he took it as a chance to throw a cheap.shot at sony and ms and say how they always follow nintendo (saying they were gonna follow them.in brazil market too) i could he wrong, but if i am right then that was quite ironic

Also, please put more context in the op

No, Nintendo blames taxes. Games have a 60% import tax here.

Well that's sucks. Any female Brazilian gamers out there want to marry me and live in the US and play all the Nintendo games you want? Brazilian women are so hot

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Brazil import taxes are ridiculous. You pretty much need to manufacture the consoles in the country to avoid the taxes. Its just not worth it.

To put it in perspective.

A Wii U around here costs R$ 1899. Something like $ 725.

And don't even get me started on the "official" PS4... it costs R$ 4000,00 - $ 1500.

Sucks for Brazilian Nintendo gamers, but I have to admit that I chuckled at this for a second, mainly because of an infamous Nintendo fan we had on this site that was from brazil.
