It's the old fight about people who like games but recognize that the console is bad and the people who fool themselves into thinking that the console is good because the games are.

if its the 'old fight' then every consoles sucked. I doubt thats the case and so should you.

Well it's not that old. Consoles only started to suck with the introduction of optical media. Before that you couldn't really complain about them since their only feature was playing a game and that, they did perfectly.

But with CDs came long loading times and the god awful memory cards which certainly made the experience worse compared to previous gens. Then of course came the internet and gen 7 which had the PS3 as the worst piece of console junk ever. Too slow for even its basic features like downloading, installing and browsing. Certainly dragged most experiences down with it.

Fast forward Gen 8. PS4 this time around managed to handle its basic functions aptly and I have so far no big complains other than the general graphical weakness. Wii U however brings me back to PS3 times with much of the same problems. Loading times, slower than necessary interface, no multitasking and to top it off even PS3 graphics.

Yeah, Wii U is not a good piece of hardware or software. Its games are good but it's hampered by troubles that are more reminiscent of last gen than this gen. That's why I can't understand people who say it's a good console just because it has good games.

Maybe I should make a thread about it.

Add that it has a nice UI to what you've already said and you have the misconception about Wii U.

You answered your own question. The games are good and that is really a prerequisite for a great VIDEO GAME console.

Nintendo fans seem to seek consensus more often than others, e.g. we get many times more "What's your favorite / least favorite Nintendo XYZ?" threads than about other makers and games, so when there is some disagreement in the fan base it may come out more.

You do know you're just aiding vivster's argument instead of giving us a PSA, right?

If you say so. Do expand on this thought though and explain exactly how.

You mean those "They should make a new F-Zero.." "No they haven't made a console Fire Emblem in ages!" But.. but FE x SMT is coming soon..." "That doesn't count you moron" arguments? I've not seen any worse than that, and that isn't much worse than any other fanbase imo.

Edit: Forgot about those Zelda discussions.

Yep.

On almost every gaming website I go to I see Nintendo fans constantly arguing and insulting each other about everything Nintendo.

Always arguing about games and features that their system should have.

Now I know people argue about things within fanbases all the time. I mean for God's sake its the internet, but this has gotten WAY more prevalent and nasty with Nintendo nowadays.

Now that I think about it, its been happening for a couple years now.

What's the deal?

This is news to me, I don't think I've ever seen that kind of arguing between Nintendo fans. I do see it between fans of different companies' consoles, though.

Maybe you need to find a better forum/site to visit.

When I get into scuffles with fellow fans, as I often do, it's usually because I think Nintendo has to change their ways to survive.

Yeah its not that I hate Nintendo, I just hate that they seemed to have lost their ambition to be innovators. They used to push console gaming to its limits and WOW! Cant think of a single WiiU game that has truly impressed me so far, at least with the Wii they used the unique controller to blow me away. The gamepad has been absolutely pointless so far and I dont see that changing.

While there have been plenty of Wii U games that have impressed me in terms of fun and polish, I essentially agree that they have lost their ambition, and that is why they are struggling.

They play it too safe these days. Where's the Wii U's Metroid Prime, Ocarina of Time, or Mario Galaxy?

Pretty much both of these ^

However i wasnt impressed with the Wii other then the first Mario Galaxy. Even though Nintendo like to take the safe way out i still had fun playing mario kart 8 and smash.

But on topic, i read a comment explaining it all and i think thats what thr TC means. Some thing Nindento is perfect and should never change and others like myself would like to see then change,  work their genuis and create something new...and just do better buissness with other video game publishers.

I didn't notice that.

Yeah but that's the thing.  Software makes the hardware worthwhile, not good.  The Wii U is very sluggish, has Nintendo's draconian policies about what online is and their awful region locking policy.  Like vivister said, Wii U feels more like a PS3-2 than a 8th gen console; although XB1 has a terrible UI and is laggy as well, that's by design in MS trying to make Xbox into Windows 8 but I digress.
