I think the main reason they are putting more effort into splatoon than expected is because it is those people's first game, so they want to make it good.

Most optimistic way to look at it:
F-Zero GX HD with Gamecube adapter support
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I doubt Nintendo are announcing their next home console until 2017 at the earliest (I think all of the AMD business is to do with Sony's next handheld and it's another ARM system, with an APU), so I think there's at least 3 years of games support before their next console is even announced, possibly 4 more years of games support before that platform's released.
I can think of plenty of Nintendo's IPs or Characters that have yet to have a Wii U release or their own game on a home console this generation, obviously 1)F-Zero is one (the whole control interface thing is down to the button layout and options for things like the boost and air brakes), 2)Metroid, a 3)Pokemon OWRPG, 4)Captain Falcon (kinda Starfox/Metroid style gameplay), 5)Wave Race, 6)Pilot Wings, 7)Kid Icarus, 8)Blast Corps, 9)Animal Crossing, 10)Wars, maybe a new 11)Duck Hunt or 12)Punch-Out, 13)Paper Mario.
I think a new 14)3D mario game, more like Super Mario 64 or Sunshine should also be made.
I don't think the Zelda coming out this year will be the last new Zelda release of the generation either, so 15) could be another Zelda title, distinct from The Legend of Zelda U.
I've said it before that Nintendo could definitely make a new IP using the characters from the Nintendo Universe, like a kind of Kingdom Hearts, with a new main character that goes on a journey and he/she gets to interact with Mario, Luigi, Link, Zelda and a bunch of others, call the game 16)Nintendo's Adventure.
New IPs handled like Splatoon, W101, maybe a 17)ZombiU sequel, another 18)Bayonetta game.
19)A new luigi game, 20)Wario, 21)Diddy Kong Racing, 22)3D Donkey Kong game, 23)1080 Snowboarding, 24)Snowboard Kids (that was a load of fun on the N64).
There's definitely a load of potential for Wii U releases, whether they're coming this year or in the future.

Or it could be talking about Nintendo's next handheld. Because AMD specifically said they want to cash in on Nintendo's next handheld.

Do you have a quote saying that? I read a lot of tech articles to do with gaming, processor technology and other technologies related to future technologies that could be used in future games platforms and I haven't once seen AMD come right out and say that they want to "cash in" on Nintendo's next handheld.
Nintendo are yet to release the new 3DS in the west, there's also a lot of talk about them merging their API to allow for a more unified development platform, so they can release a console/handheld ecosystem that will allow them to develop a game across both platforms with ease.
If AMD were talking about any existing player within the market it's doubtful this relates to a home console, because all parties are still a long way off from releasing something new, like 5 years at the minimum from when they launched their last systems. Vita launched in 2011, Sony would have had 3 years of sales time out of the slim, perfect timing to launch their next handheld, especially if there's still a market for such a system and they can right any wrongs they made with it. We'll see what happens though.

Here's one^

No love for Starfy uh? Yes, another platformer... But we've only seen one.
Glory of Heracles on Wii U please jajaja.
And I support those that wish a new Wave Race to be in the makings.

If you mean this: "‘Another area of interest for semi-custom is handheld gaming, believe it or not,’ said Moshkelani. ‘Everyone thinks it is dead, but the 3DS is still selling."
The guy from AMD is talking about the handheld market in general, not a Nintendo handheld specifically. Basically he's using the 3DS as an example that the handheld console market isn't dead, he's right about that.
I'm sure AMD will partner up with Nintendo for their next handheld and I'm sure Nintendo would consider an APU for their next handheld as it would simplify manufacturing and help to keep costs low, but I think Nintendo's next handheld won't be finalized until 2017 at the earliest, along with their next home console.
Sony just seems the more logical company to release a handheld around 2016.

pikmin 4 in the e3 and f-zero in the next generations

It isn't going to be released in 2016, just revealed. That's a 6 year cycle for the 3DS, which seems reasanable. And why would Sony need to make another handheld?
