Forums - Sony - PlayStation Now Subscription Pricing Brings In Mixed Reactions From Users

Sony have announced a subscription based service for its games streaming service, PlayStation Now. The subscription plans are priced at $19.99 for one month or a three month package for $44.99.  The subscription service gives players access to over 100 PlayStation 3 games but opinion is divided on whether Sony got the pricing right.

Obviously this is a step up from the dreadful pricing plan during the open beta, but players’ reactions towards the announcement has been mixxed. The gaming community from TwitterReddit and NeoGaf believe that the pricing is simply too high and will mostly appeal to players who have never played on the PlayStation 3 before. Some users even believe that the pricing is flat out ridiculous given that pre-owned games are far more cheaper, whereas others compared the pricing to Netflix which offers movie streaming services for $8.99 per month. However there players who believe that the pricing is just about right, specially for the 3 month package.

It must be highlighted that although users from those three communities do not represent the majority of the gaming demographics in anyway, it’s still fascinating to note their reactions on the first big news of 2015.

PlayStation Now unlimited access subscriptions begins next week from January 13th. Our very own editorial on whether the pricing scheme makes sense will be published soon. But what are your thoughts on this matter? Let us know in the comments section below and stay tuned for more news and updates.

20 bucks a month for access to over 100 PS3 games? Well if you have a flawless internet connection, then the price is ok...

The pricing is fine and fair. Ps plus must have spoilt a lot of PlayStation gamers because the value is excellent

Well the issue is the internet connection can be flaky which will diminish the experience... Gaming is not the samething as watching a movie cause gaming relies heavily on things such as input lag and the resolution is very important as well (and there are many other things as well). On top of that, just because you are advertised a certain internet speed does not result in you getting that speed consistently as proven by countless articles around the internet and netflix's own popular isp data.

The average household in the US has 3mbps while streaming netflix which = 360p/480p quality and that will be unacceptable for psnow! So I do think the pricing needs to be lower rather than being competitive to say gamefly cause gamefly will give u a retail disc which = "best experience" vs psnow will give a variable experience based on netflix's data so far. Remember, input lag or crap resolution and many other things will impact a game experience far more than a movie streaming experience so people need internet speeds that are a lot better than what netflix recommends and they need speeds that are consistant. Least thats my opinion on the thing anyway

I think even with great connections, I still don't think it looks perfectly like the ps3 games they are emulating. I will say the library seems weak as well. I have bought up $30 dollars on the service, doubt I really will anymore.

Price is fair. It is not for everyone, and not everybody needs to needs to subscribe. Those who see value in it will do it.

But I am still shocked how many gamers on those sites (and here as well) who keep invoking used game prices are completely clueless a to the service. It is obviously not aimed at PS3 owners, but at those who do not own it, or perhaps don't own a console at all. Used games are worthless to them.

The pricing maybe extreme but it's fair for the most part ...

Ok its 100 games now, in a few years that could be over 1000 games for the same price it's not going to be just 100 games!

Even right now if you bought 100 games at let's say roughly 5 bucks each (amazing deal for most games), thats $500 of games, now if you bought four 3 month packages at $45 that would add up to $180 a year. This is an awesome deal, how cheap can people be?

For the 1 month and 3 months the price is fair. But they should also offer a 1 year option for like $129-$149.

pls. I really don't get this. at $20 a month for unlimited access to any number of games they have on the service I don't understand what the problem is. especially when u consider at some point all you will need is a TV/device compatible with a DS4 and you can play all those games.

Lastly, why has no one complained abt services like gamefly that you pay $15/month but can only rent 1 game at a time and wait for the game to be shipped to you. with PSnow if u want to play 10 games simultaneously you can.
