Forums - Gaming - three reasons nintendo will last longer in the video game space than microsoft or sony

who will last the longest?

nintendo 282 69.12%

microsoft 26 6.37%

sony 99 24.26%

Total:407

Well, Nintendo has been around 125 years, adapting practically to any condition in the market, so if anything goes wrong in their video game business, they'll look for a new alternative.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

This is my take. Nintys online presence in the vg industry is atrocious be it online gaming, digital titles, network store, services or apps.  I feel they've gone down a cul de sac. Don't see any light at the end of the tunnel.  Just my opinion.

Yet I can play games when Nintendo's network is down. Some people couldn't even play offline games when the playstation/XBOX network was out (or so I was told at least). Oh and Nintendo's network doesn't fail as often as the others. ;) Yeah, Lizardsquad didn't target them, I know. That's a plus for Nintendo.

I'll gladly take Nintendo's online over the others. What's wrong with Nintendo's digital titles? Please do tell.

And lol @ apps. Keep that smartphone/tablet junk off my gaming console please. It's already bad enough that I have to use WIndows 8 on my laptop.

All games worked fine for me. If ninty had a top class network used by millions daily they'd have gone down too.

Yep... compare a service with very few users and even fewer games that utilize online to massively dependant games... makes all sense in the world.

The OP isn't about which of the 3 will survive as a company longer, just which will last in videogame space.

Pokemon HAS been changing. If you play a game each generation there are at least a decent amount of semi significant changes. If you play X/Y compared to red/blue it's practically a totally different game. And pokemon has had quite a few successful and innovative spinoffs to date. Tetris is still the same game it was decades ago, just shinier.

I consider pokemon X/Y changes minimal and in essence the game only became shinier, so there you have it.

There will come a time where pokemon will have to become a 30+ million dollars MMORPG (mobile or console, doesn't matter), fully voice acted, fully 3d open world.

Cause if it doesn't it will die to the competition.

Altought I do believe, Nintendo will be able to keep up. Pokemon X/Y is a good game for today standards. My point is only that there will be a point where today standard won't sufice and neither nostalgia be relevant enough, Nintendo will have to shell out the cash, even for one of the most lucrative/cost ratio games it does, be pokemon or mario kart.

That is simply not true. The 8 bit days were decades ago, yet games like Shovel Knight, when done correctly, still sell enough to not only be profitable, but to be a huge success. Pokemon, as it is right now, isn't pushing much in terms of power and doesn't require a lot of resources to make, yet it sells a MASSIVE amount more than 95% of games that cost millions of dollars more to make. That trend will continue for at least 10-20 more years, if not much longer. Nostalgia is always popular.

Nintendo is a source of creativity. It IS their DNA. Their whole culture is build around that.

No other company not doing well and under immense pressure would say that they won't lay off any developer as these can't be creative and create fun games if they are under pressure.

THAT alone says all how different Nintendo really is...

The problem is there are very few games with online communities on the Wii U. Ps xbox and psn have massive thriving communities

That is a great point. Whenever I hear about people playing Wii U online I only hear Smash and Mario Kart. PS4 and Xbox One have tons of games online, not just 2.

1. they dont need to pour millions of dollars into a game to make it profitable.

2. they can be profitable off of 20m console sales

3. they are virtually unaffected by all the crazy crap that happens in this industry.

what are your guys' thoughts on who will make consoles the longest?

1.  Apples and oranges comparison.  Do you think Bayonetta was cheap to make though?

2. Kinda, doesn't mean they will profit as much

3. Except they are not at all.  This gen they posted losses for the first time...EVER!

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

Yep. If someone says live is better than psn I wouldn't disagree (and anyone who does would be talking more about personal experience and preferences) but the services are comparable in scope (with live usually being faster and more stable), but Nintendo online isn't even in the same ballpark.

1 Wrong, as they all can make profitable games of varying scope and do.

2 No proof of that, mere opinion.

3 Yes they are the wiius sales failure and them losing half their cash prives that beyond a doubt.  They will become 3rd party in less then a decade due to this industry.

All will last in some shape or form.
