So they haven't milked any franchises for 25 years but that's kinda hard when u haven't been in the console business that long. Microsoft and Sony sure don't mind milking a franchise for 15 years though. Assuming MS/Sony are still making consoles 10 years from now, I'm sure we will still see these franchises getting milked.
Games like Metroid have been around since 1986 and has about the same amount of releases. Mario Kart (1992) and Smash Bros (1999) are some of Nintendo's biggest franchises and only have 8 & 5 installements. Nintendo also gives many franchises long stretches between releases, Kid Icarus went 21 years without a release, Pikmin 3 came 9 years after 2, Luigi's Mansion went 12 without a sequel. Yes, Mario as a character & Pokémon are very milked and have a shit load of spinoffs but for the most part other companies milk their franchises just as much as Nintendo.
