Tell that to idiot Penn Gillete where (to him) "Merry Christmas" is basically saying *You're not a part of this holiday because you're not christian.* I respect the guy and all but him saying merry christmas is leaving people out of the holiday is stupid since the holiday is not exclusive to christians, and since it's so intertwined with the american and european beliefs/customs with the winter solstice side of winter.

In fact I keep arguing that you can say merry xmas in a welcoming way to everyone since it is afterall, all about being good towards your fellow men (or people) and being (should I say) merry.

This sort of shit really irks me. If you willingly travel to a foreign country then you should be aware of their beliefs/culture and should shut the fuck up and accept it.

Waoo, this man would face the same problem every holiday, it's inevitable to avoid listening someone say merry Christmas at least once unless you stay at home the entire Christmas.

X is a symbol for Christ. So saying Merry Xmas is the same. Christmas has embraced many pagan traditions but to say it is for everyone is like saying I can have a secular version of Hanukkah. We are just use to it here because our country was founded by Christians. No matter how many atheists celebrate it, it still stands as a religious holiday despite what corporations want you to think. 

My point is anyone has a right to tell someone Merry whatever holiday they celebrate but you can't expect people to not be offended when it goes against their beliefs and it's probably best to keep it out of a lot of public spaces when acting as a representative of a company/business. As an individual yell it from the mountain tops for all I care.

By the way if this was really intertwined with American culture we would have the native peoples influence on it. No this is european culture with a modern capitalistic spin. Otherwise what traditions are of American orgin to christmas not created by corporations?
