Forums - Sales - Will the gap in sales between PS4 and X1 be greater or smaller in 2015?

in the US the gap is pretty much 0.
Next year X1 will sell more in the Us than the PS4

That simply won't happen. XBox has a stellar line up next year and don't forget that most system sellers are 3rd party not 1st party. The Order 1886 is unlikey to be a massive deal and Bloodborne has a very specific audience who are probably leaning sony anyway.

I'd say the gap will remain the same or increase slightly. The ground XB1 made in US isn't gonna vanish vanish overnight. A potential gap  increase will be from PS4 sales shooting through the roof in EU and finally finding its feat in Japan. In america I see Xbox dropping to levels slightly below PS4 which is far better then what we saw throughout the majority of this year.

I don't see why it could not happen in the future.

And first party games have the same potential to be system sellers as third party games. Series like Halo and Uncharted are pretty much the biggest system sellers for each specific console they release on.

In regards to The Order 1886 not being a massive deal, it is currently the highest pre-ordered game in America (the PS4's weakest market) with 152790 pre-orders ten weeks out from release. And while VGChartz is sometimes off with pre-orders it's almost always undertracking. The Order 1886 has gotten better with each showing and will likely be a massive release.

Bloodborne may has a specific audience but it is by no means small given prior entries have sold 1.75 million for demon souls, 1,9 million for dark souls and 1 million for dark souls 2 (coming out after ps4's release). Now the franchise is well known and back to being exclusive on the PS4 it may well top the two million mark.

I believe the gap will increase signifigantly as a result of these big releases as well as the China launch and Final Fantasy Type Zero setting the Japanese market on fire.

It won't happen in future because the Xbox is certified a desirable platform. The PS4 sales may rocket to new heights but Xbox is simply not going to fall to sub par levels again, there are too many releases to certify it a strong baseline and holiday momentum will not vanish come january 3rd, thats not how momentum works. It requires a judgement call but I personally don't see The Order 1886 or Bloodborne doing much damage to the Xbox's sales momentum, they will definitely give PS4 a boost (I predict The Order will be short lived, Bloodborne will be stronger).

Pre-orders don't say much IMO, most are people who already have PS4s and it just suggests the game will have a strong launch. Whether it becomes a huge seller (>2m) depends on if it can capture the general public and personally I am unsure of that at the moment.

In regards to the gap I think it dpends on where we're looking. I think in regards to the respective periods  Q1 will be bigger gap/Q2 smaller/Q3smaller/Q4 bigger.

I think people are forgetting the  X1 dropped as low as 40k this past summer. The system will not repeat the slumb we saw after Titanfalls release

The more 3rd party games, the better.

3rd party titles continues to push PS4 units, while Xbox One doesn't get the same level of 'push'.

In 2015 there will be even more "big" 3rd party titles releasing, and if the trend continues - PS4 will come out on top, again.

-Dying Light
-Evolve
-Final Fantasy Type-0
-Project Cars
-Battlefield: Hardline
-Mortal Kombat X
-The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
-Batman: Arkham Knight
-Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
-Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4
-Madden NFL 16
-FIFA 16
-Assassin's Creed Victory
-Star Wars: Battlefront
-Untitled Call of Duty Game
-Rainbow Six Siege
-The Division

It's also important to know that Sony has exclusive marketing for a few of these multiplats: Battlefield and Batman. There are also a bunch of multiplats where Sony doesn't even need to to anything to move more PS4 hardware than X1 hardware such as Final Fantasy Type-0, MGSV: The Phantom Pain, and Naruto Shippuden.

What about this would be a joke?

PlayStation Vue, Direct TV, and Verizon's OTT Television services are going to be huge next year. Many people that do subscribe to cable are fed up with the inadequate equipment and out dated services. If these services are anywhere near similar in price to traditional cable, people will be doing a lot of research next year, and with no commitments, they will be free to try all avenues.

As far as Windows 10 and productivty apps go. This is a dream come true for every kid that has ever lived on the planet. If you can tell your parents that this $300 device can play all the games you like, and you can do research, and right your papers on it, that is the kind of stuff that will get many parents to take the plung. Games and entertainment are one thing, adding education, and productivity opens up the doors to millions, if not billions more consumers.

PS4 and XBO are moving out of the territory of the hardcore gamer, and towards the casual audience that uses the consoles for a lot more than games. With next year most likly seeing $299.99 price tags, it will be a lot different consumer looking at the consoles than Feruary to March 2013. At this point the games are coming, and the more services, software, and functionality a console has becomes a lot more important.

so a joke it is, in a world(1st world) where most 10 year olds have a phone tablet and a home PC.  A kids dream is to hope their parents are total morons and will fall for such a joke reason to buy a video game console.  Iv seen people go to some great lengths to bs them selves and justify their purchases.  But you take the prize.  Why the hell would any one buy a GAMING console for any of that when they can get a tablet pc laptop hell phone to do that ???

Gaming, thats why they sale and will sale.  Not tv movies or lmao education.  Whats the average age of a gamers around 30 right, so yahh kids parents and education on video game console lol.  Step back into reality bro, you are really grasping at straws in the 4th dimention here.

I guess I just don't see how gamers can be so close minded. Sony and Nintendo destroyed any chances they had to make gaming handhelds massive success, and in the process have nearly knocked themselves from portable gaming all together. Why? Because Apple came along, and made a device that plays games, music, movies, productivity apps, educational apps, makes phone calls, and much much more. Then they continued to sit around and do nothing while google followed apple right down the road to a mega success. Now there are many devices that are more powerful, play better games, are more functional, and cheaper than 3DS and Vita. Everything they do is better, and the numbers speak for themselves.

At this point in time there is not one device that brings the complexity of a smartphone or PC, and the simplicity of a smartphone or console to the TV screen. That is the brilliance of the smartphone, it is complex enough to do nearly anything, while also being extremely simple. Consoles have the simplicity to mimic a smartphone, but lack the complexity or sophistication to deliver what PC and Smartphones offer. If Sony and MS want to survive and strive in this position of big screen dominance, they have to adapt. Android and iOS powered devices, are right on the outskirts, and could strike at any time. If they bring the full package to the big screen like they have to smartphones, it will be game over for the Playstation and Xbox brands.

As far as XBO's failure at launch. To me that came down to extreamly bad choices. Had Microsoft not had the no used games issue, and then had Don Mattrick stand there and say if you don't like it buy a 360, things could have been a lot different. Delivering voice and motion controls, allowing multiple programs to be snappped at the same time, and live TV through XBO is not what hurt it. Those features are helping it turn the corner in the US, along with massive price drops. Unfortunetly for Microsoft, they barried the best features of their console under bad publicity, and it has taken time to get people to understand just what XBO really brings to the table.

Buddy you can tell your self all this foolishness, but iv sold products that ranged up to 20k.   People buy things for the most simplistic basic reasons all else is white noise to them.

Phones spanked dedicated hand held gaming because its easy and convinent, not educational or prodactivity apps lol.   Consoles will sale tens of millions more as price comes down, and the sole pourpose of the purchase will be games.  None are gonna buy a PS or xbox for the sole reason of TV or education apps lol.

Is theres anything more closed minded then labeling people gamers.

If your theory mentality was legit, console would not exist and we all would be gaming on the super productivity educations and gaming machines called PC.  But we dont.

Depends on if the X1's price goes back to $399. If it does then I expect the gap to be greater.

You don't need to quote for the lolz later on. His first sentence is a huge giveaway since the US gap is 700K with December to go.

Much greater.

I think some people pretand most 2014 does not exist, he may be only counting form Sept.  His corporate overlord said it only starts to matter starting sept or oct.

yeah there was this artical that the UK retailers said that the gap would be smaller in 2015 but i dont agree with that i think it will be wider then 2014
