Agree, Wii had too much Mario games, Wii U for now is good with numbers of Mario games, we dont need more of them.

If you look at Sony, their Japanese branch really hasnt done much in the past couple of years, and have been heavily reliant on Western devs. Add to the fact they have pretty much dropped focus from the Vita. So it is safe to say Nintendo has done a lot more work than Sony Japan has and is.

You are right, it seems like a lot of Japanese companies are lagging this gen and last gen. HD was a lot more trouble for them than they realized.

The thing is there should be no excuse for Nintendo cause they have to support their console... we should have already had a Zelda game by now, and Smash Bros. should've came out Q1 this year or last year.


Yeah Nintendo clearly underestimated the requirements for HD development. They definitely began their first HD console rather shakily.

I dont think its so much that Japanese companies are lagging by ineptitude rather than they simply dont have sufficient funds and resources to speed up production.

I have always believe Nintendo could always use more studios under their belt. Not only would it help them put some of their dormant IPs to use but may also lead to new IPs; moreover, this could assist them compensate from the third party support they sorely lack.

We need more games, Nintendo!

I agree they should expand but I think you overestimate the power of some of their Ips. Sometimes investment in new experiences could have a much more powerful effect, so I wouldn't say they need to utilise all of their Ips. Many fo them have no relevance outside of their established base who are easily secured by mandatory games like MK, 3D Mario and Zelda.

They need to expand and they need it bad. I've always been of the opinion that for each one of their major IP's they need a team working on a new title at all times.

What if EA didn't give us the next Mass Effect for another five years because they spent that entire time working on the next Plants vs. Zombies? That's pretty much how Nintendo works.

Luckily, next gen, Nintendo will use a unified API with games shared across their systems (as officially stated by Iwata on multiple occasions), so that they will in fact have all their games on all their systems. :)

And that's not up for discussion, either, as it's the official direction they're heading, according to Iwata.
