I don't know what's up with Nintendo this gen. It's the strangest thing in video game history.

I mean Melee came out a few months after the GameCube was released, Brawl took about 1.5 years after the Wii, but Smash Bros. For Wii U (even the name is lazy) took 2 years! Also Zelda is taking forever. Almost 3 years later!

Nintendo either needs to hire a lot more or outsource their IPs and make some new ones.

Nintendo didn't plan anything right. They started working on Smash last year. They were already 1 year in of Wii U. That's their problem. To have the game at Wii U launch. It should of been in development before Twilight Princess was released on Wii. Who says they need to speed up production of games. You start them earlier. It be like bitching if an episode of Game Of Thrones was filmed last week. And it was released 3 months later. That's the time it takes. That's why shows are filmed months in advance before announcements are made. WHen Smash Wii U was announced. It should of been 80% done.

they are expanding its just that every game needs more people so the expansion is used to make the games faster rather then have smaller teams making more games as it isn't like it was in the old days where a couple of people could make a big game in a short amount of time

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I dont know if expanding is the only solution per se. They definitely need to ramp up software, but they seem to be doing that as of late.

Exactly. Not to mention they had issues with HD development as well which were widely known by 2010-12. It's unreal how Nintendo dropped the ball with the Wii U. My estimated total sales was 40 million for it (though I was more conservative at first with 25 million - which it will likely not reach either) cause I knew it wouldn't have the appeal the Wii did but I had no idea how bad Nintendo was doing.

To be honest having a lot of exclusives only is an advantage if you get most of the big multi patform games aswell. And Wii-U doesn't even get sportsgames like Fifa or Madden or even COD, let alone AC, GTA etc etc.

Thank god, those games are far too casual for my tastes! Plus I really dislike sport games, except SSX3. Which isn't realistic at all lol.

Yep, Nintendo could release wave race, 1080, advance wars, kid Icarus, a modernized version of ice climbers, endless ocean, fire emblem etc alongside their heavy hitters and their 2nd/3rd party exclusives. They would have a large enough library to not even worry about multiplats

There is a lot to consider. First, quality aways take time. GTA still need 5 years to get done, even witht eh amount of people they could hire. What nintendo realized so long ago is that 9 woman can't give birth to a baby in one month. EA and Activision are starting to realize this now, giving more time to the studios to work on their games, Ubisoft still don't see this and this like unity happens.

And there is too the nintendo style. Nintendo aways tries to guarantee that games they publish has a minimum of quality, and for this to work, they can't hire upper managment people without garanting that they understand what every nintendo game need to have, where to work and where to polish.

If nintendo is to expand, i really think that thoose new teams should work on their own new property, like monolith soft did.

Before talking about the litlle amount that nintendo puts out out of their catalogue of IP, take a cold and deep look at sega. How many IPs of theirs are still alive? When sony and microsft had a as big catalogue of the ips taht nitendo have, then you go and tell me how bad nintendo "underuse" their IPs now.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

They should prepare for their next console to be strong straight out the gate or they'll face this problem again. They should expand and strive for some 3rd party support at least while creating or buying development studios outside of Japan.

I think its just Japanese companies in general that release games slowly. Their gaming industry is a hell of a lot smaller than say America's. But yes Nintendo need to acquire/expand in order to keep up releases and I for one would love if they did.

PLUS Nintendo as a whole prefer to do a lot of the things themselves AND have to work on a handheld and home console simultaneously.

If you look at Sony, their Japanese branch really hasnt done much in the past couple of years, and have been heavily reliant on Western devs. Add to the fact they have pretty much dropped focus from the Vita. So it is safe to say Nintendo has done a lot more work than Sony Japan has and is.
