Yeah its an app, welcome to PSNow =P Seriously this is all PSNow has ever been, an app that lets you stream a growing library of PS games to selected devices.

Why its big news is because this is seemingly where gaming is slowly going, streaming new games to any of your devices and playing without an expensive console. And iirc Samsung TVs will be the first non Sony device to be supported.

The idea is to not limit your games to the few hundred million or so that will buy expensive games consoles but to allow anyone with an internet capable device to play them bringing the potential install base to well almost everyone.

Obviously we are a long way off being able to stream the newest AAA titles to your TV/Smartphone/Tablet etc. but thats where we are headed if PSNow is a success.

Its not new news though. We've known about PS Now for a long time. And now that its been out for months, it doesn't seem like its that popular. Maybe in the future more people will use the service. 

And doesn't the quality of the game depend on your internet speed? So that's a huge restriction that current consoles don't have. In most parts of the world, internet speeds are still quite slow. 

And even if its coming to Samsung TVs, those TV's already come with loads of apps already installed. That's why I don't see why this is big news.

Consoles already have games so new game announcements are no longer a big deal OK??

And yes internet is slow in parts of the world, I would know but that why its the future and being rolled out in areas capable of taking advantage of it. Everything has restrictions at first and usually they fade away with time allowing mainstream popularity.

Streaming PS3 games without having to own a console. That's a pretty big deal. 

Yes but we've known about it for months. And its already available on Bravia TV's. 

Now it's available on a much wider selection of TVs.

Can anyone confirm if TV manufactures will receive something for allowing this service on their products ?

Do Sony,MS, Samsung, Apple and other hardware and software producers receive money from Netflix for instance ?

Are Smart TVs even successful? I barely know any people that own them. I don't think this is as big of a deal as some are saying.

Potential revenue from having this on multiple brands will far outweigh the revenue from having this on sony only TVs. Also I presume they don't have much faith in it to sell actual sony TV. In gaming terms its not a system seller.
