Dear LORD. They probably didn't because they've partnered with them but they tell you IN THE ARTICLE why it's likely other companies will eventually pay for the service. I highlighted it.

That would be like Netflix making every TV maker pay for their service.

I don't know it all, I've read the article, listened to Sony and understand it. They'd buy it to add value. Perhaps there will be other options ... I can't say that for certain.

I don't know it all, I've read the article, listened to Sony and understand it. They'd buy it to add value.


Sony is the one making the money off of this service. Even if companies trusted Sony blindly and did pay to have it on their devices, it probably wouldnt be enough to keep it going if the general public dont want it. Or will the companies have to pay a monthly fee to let Sony make money off their devices?

The reasoning behind me assuming a fee will be involved is that they've done a deal with Samsung. Gaikai originally had a deal with Samsung so they've just followed through on that deal. I feel as if the slower roll out is to give 'some' companies an advantage (in this case Samsung). IF (and this is definitely an 'if') sales of their TVs increase due to the added value of PSNow, then it will be other companies approaching Sony for the service and not the other way around. This will give Sony some leverage. Like I said though, there may be another option. I'm just explaining why I believe other companies may have to pay for the use of it. Perhaps it will just be a one off fee for the App itself ... who knows. Perhaps Sony will allow companies to make a small profit from it themselves ... again, who knows. But just like PS+, PSNow will be largely self financed.

PSNow has three major things other services never had.

1. A large, significant library of games. PSNow is still in open beta form and has over 150 games and the list is growing all the time. This list includes games like, Mass Effect 2, Killzone 3, Dead Space 3, Infamous 1 and 2, Saints Row 4, ect.

2. The name and backing of the largest video game brand in the world. Nobody knew who Onlive was, nobody cared. This is a Playstation service.

3. PSNow works. Onlive was terrible. Lag was significant and games crashed fairly often. PSNow has none of those issues.

 

Though this won't kill consoles, being able to play PS3 games on a tv isn't as good as being able to play PS4 games, even if you have to do it on a PS4. For me, the real chance for major success here is Playstation Vue. Not everybody games, everybody watches TV.


Ok it works, has a large game library and is made by Sony. Those are facts.

It will be a success, is the future of gaming and will make people buy a Playstation. Those are not facts.

Where did anyone say that? Ther service has a good chance of being sucessful, This news about being available on Samsung TV's only helps it. Where did anyone mention the other two things you mentioned though?

The companies should line up in front of Netflixs headquarters then, but they dont because Netflix is the one that takes all the profit from the service, so Netflix is also the one taking the risks. A company would not pay for a service that only another company would make money from. Thats just insane.
