Forums - Gaming - Game Launch Prices are a JOKE to the industry... Proof

This is normal for every Christimas over the past few years. Most games released before the middle of November can be had for $25 by December 31. If you are a gamer that give a fraction of a shit about deals you could have seen this coming a mile away.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

At least you guys gets a price cut on games sooner rather than later. It takes a year or two before we even feel the price change here in the Philippines.

So Assassin's Creed Unity, we've already beat that horse to death long ago, but here is something about it once again.

Look at the amazon page right here

http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Creed-Unity-PlayStation-4/dp/B00J48MUS4/ref=zg_bs_videogames_1

If you are reading this at the present date, you'll notice it is not 10, not 20, but 30 DOLLARS OFF ORIGIONAL PRICE. Wow. That is a good deal, but it is also one of the worst things a game company can do that in the long run kills the industry partially. Why buy a game at launch when it is just going to have a cray ass sale like this? There seems to be no point in pre ordering a game either. Half off is a lot, especially for only being out for about a month. That is a joke. I get that Ubisoft wants it to sell like hotcakes, and it is, Xbox One Version and PS4 version are currently at #1 and #2 spot on amazon video game orders. However, it also at the same time burns a lot of money from then, becuse honestly, fans were probably gonna get the game eventually anyway no matter if it is on sale or not at all.

Other games have done this too, Just Dance 2015 (Recently Released and also by Ubisoft) Is only 20 bucks on select consoles... that is only 40 percent of what it was at launch.  Recently also their was a sale for Titanfall from 60 dollars to 20 dollars.... that is some serious sales, but it ruins the fun of getting a game at launch, it really does.

I almost never pre order games anymore, unless it is a huge game for me like Smash Bros, that was the only game I got at launch all year, and even then I was reluctant on the situation.

Nintendo doesn't cut their prices for a long time, so it's safe to pre-order those.

Most games that are selling well don't get price cuts like this.  Look at GTA 5, even though it's a re-master it's still holding up at $56/57.  Unity is shit, that's why it got a $10 cut the very 1st day after it launched, and now $30 cut.

My 8th gen collection

The insane foil to this is that while MCC and ACU have both received price cuts to give them some legs through the holidays, BOTH versions of Smash are still at their launch prices and are holding steady high in the hourly charts. In fact, Smash Wii U was on its way to the top before Ubisoft slashed the Assassin's Creed Unity price again.

I bought Titanfall a couple of weeks ago for $5 off of Origin. It doesn't surprise me though, AC Unity is a broken pile of crap.

I will buy many games at full price because I want to support the industry and keep it going.

However many games like Assassin's Creed or COD I will not buy full price and usually get them a few years late or off friend. The other thing is DLC. FOr most games I just won't do it. On PS3 I shared accounts with other people to download the map packs. No way was I ever paying 15$ for 4 new maps no matter how much i liked the game.

ANd if you think Unity is bad, I'm pretty sure MW3 on the PS3 PSN is still at launch price from 4 years ago and this is a download with very little costs attached!!

People who buy games day-one probably don't care that it's going to be cheaper down the line, whether it be 1 month or 6 months later.

In this industry, patience is rewarded. I never get games on day one, always wait for a drop. I don't think I'll see ACU for $30 again till next Christmas, so I got it and I'm gonna wait for patch 1.04 and others to fix the framerate. Meanwhile I got The Evil Within for $25 and Alien Isolation and SoM for $45 or so each.

Why get them on launch day when they are 25-60% cheaper a few weeks after launch?

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

The only games I buy full price and day 1 are games I know I want and almost always they are Nintendo games. I bought Captain Toad on the eshop the instant it was available for purchase. I went digital this time because I wanted Nintendo to get every dollar possible for this game. Otherwise for most of the big publishers I don't buy day 1. Its easier to wait for 2 months and almost always those games are dirt cheap. Nintendo is a rare exception. Their games usually keep their original price months or years after launch.

Canadians have it even worse, we pay 70$ for games (I'm sure there are even higher prices in other areas).

Amen brotha! Not too mention it's closer to $80 once the 13% tax is applied.

Hey, I heard Canadians get free college education? Maybe that's why taxes are high over thar?

LOL the truth hurts!

Too bad its not the truth.  Don't believe eveything you read on the internet.
