Forums - Gaming - Game Launch Prices are a JOKE to the industry... Proof

The issue is that most games are not worth anywhere near $60 at launch for the experiences they provide.

I disagree, Games are a cheap form of entertainment.   Watching a movie for +10$ is an overpriced form of entertainment.

$60 a pop isn't a cheap form of entertainment.

For what you get it feels cheap for me... or I have to buy a horrible game...

Gaming hardly became more expensive, many of us were used to Megadrive/n64 gamest that were more expensive than 60$.

Hmmm, i would be tempted if I could actually finish an assassins creed game, i have all of them up to 3 and i have started 1 and 2 and onky got about halfway through both... Havent even started the rest...

Yes, I always compare prices with the price of Pizza: a new game costs about the same as 10 pizzas.  10 pizzas = 10 hours of playing a game in "entertainment value"!

Nintendo games hardly go down in price. Also, typically most critically acclaimed games don't go too down in price until GOTY editions or rereleases come out.

So Assassin's Creed Unity, we've already beat that horse to death long ago, but here is something about it once again.

Look at the amazon page right here

http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Creed-Unity-PlayStation-4/dp/B00J48MUS4/ref=zg_bs_videogames_1

If you are reading this at the present date, you'll notice it is not 10, not 20, but 30 DOLLARS OFF ORIGIONAL PRICE. Wow. That is a good deal, but it is also one of the worst things a game company can do that in the long run kills the industry partially. Why buy a game at launch when it is just going to have a cray ass sale like this? There seems to be no point in pre ordering a game either. Half off is a lot, especially for only being out for about a month. That is a joke. I get that Ubisoft wants it to sell like hotcakes, and it is, Xbox One Version and PS4 version are currently at #1 and #2 spot on amazon video game orders. However, it also at the same time burns a lot of money from then, becuse honestly, fans were probably gonna get the game eventually anyway no matter if it is on sale or not at all.

Other games have done this too, Just Dance 2015 (Recently Released and also by Ubisoft) Is only 20 bucks on select consoles... that is only 40 percent of what it was at launch.  Recently also their was a sale for Titanfall from 60 dollars to 20 dollars.... that is some serious sales, but it ruins the fun of getting a game at launch, it really does.

I almost never pre order games anymore, unless it is a huge game for me like Smash Bros, that was the only game I got at launch all year, and even then I was reluctant on the situation.

I was asking this myself 5 years ago (or maybe 10? I cant remember.)
Since then I dont buy any third party game on consoles but wait for the $5 steam version a year after release (patience is a good thing)

I only buy Nintendo games day1 because they keep their value like forever. It does not matter if I buy them day1 or 2 years later so I can as well buy them on release day.

Only games that flop go down in price fast or get huge discounts.

this.

I waited ages for th last of us to drop in price because of it releasing not long before the PS4. I here tell that the PS4 may get a version so I waited to see it was true. I seen the price and thought nope, I am not paying full price for a port of a PS3 game. I dont care what dev crated it. I finally got the game for 25 pounds and that was doing some serious online bargin hunting.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

1) Unity is a special case, and is far from the norm.

I'm pretty sure every AC has dropped considerably within 3 months of release.  I remember my brother getting Black Flag at launch and about 2 months later Best Buy had it for 19$.

The only games that hold their value are cod titles and first party nintendo games, everything else gets traded in so often they have yo slash prices to keep selling new stuff.

I remember Skyrim and Last of Us holding their original prices for quite some time. This seems like a good way to examine how a company feels about their own product.
