Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN "Recent sales data indicates Super Smash Bros. may not have given Wii U the boost it needs."

Pretty much they are assuming that smash is not saving the wii u

they really are not smart to think that smash will save the wii u singlehandily

EDIT:sorry for the misinfo the data they were using was still silly because it was only a tally of 5k people

With a game like Smash Bros you'd think it would sell like.. more than a million on day 1 of its release. But, I'm gonna assume that a lot of people bought the game digitally because its just one of those games that you're gonna keep forever and never sell.

Yup, just tried to watch that, had to turn it off at the 30 seconds mark. Dear Lord I can't stand Greg Miller.

OT: Smash Bros was never going to "save" the Wii U.

Depends on what "saving" means... If they are thought smash would have made the wiiU sell like 40+ million lifetime, then obviously it wouldn't have and they are idiots for thinking so

You would think that if you've never followed how sales of Nintendo games work.

Did they expect SSBU to somehow make the Wii U outsell either PS4 or XB1 last week?

Oh did they use VGC? I was trying to figure out what their source was when I watched that video earlier today but I couldn't find anything on it.

...

IGN using VGC sales data?

Well that's a turnup for the books.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

The game would mostly sell to those who already owned the console to be fair.

Still IGN isn't precisely the best site to for sales info.
