It's not about what I want, it's about what I think, and judging by how it's performed yoy since its inception, 6m is completely realistic for 2016. Nothing suggests it will sell better than that. |
Yep 6m for 2016 sounds about right.
This year will likely be around 10-11 million, next year about 8 million and 5-6 million for 2016. That would put it about 65 million by the end of 2016 and around 70 million lifetime.

price. They are $200 with big contracts. Nintendo needs their new handheld to be $200 as 3DS showed at the start. They won't have any dedicated competition but they still need to stay low on price to be successful.
I do think Nintendo will achieve 720p on their HDS but in 2017 at the earliest imo

Vita has been $199.99 for over a year now and is most likely sold at a profit (can't imagine Sony would sell it at a loss considering how poorly it sells). 3DS' successor is likely coming in 2016 or 2017 so 3-4 years after Vita hit $199.99, it's not out of the question that a decently more powerful device could be sold at that price in that amount of time.

How powerful do u guys think the 3DS successor will be assuming it releases in 2016-2017?
Considering that 3DS is somewhere between PSP & Wii in terms of power, I would say HDS (or whatever it's called) will be somewhere between Vita & Wii U in terms of power or roughly equal to 360/PS3 but with more RAM (perhaps about 1gb)

There are $200 tablets today with 7-8 inch HD screens that have chipsets more powerful than the Vita and more RAM right now.
Nintendo's portable Fusion will be able to run Wii U quality games at 540p-720p is my guess. 20nm System on Chip ARM CPU + AMD mobile GPU.
The home variant will be the same chip with more cores/RAM and run the same games at 1080p with maybe a few extra effects. Don't expect a super powerful console, I think the console version will actually be cheaper than the portable one.
AMD has also cryptically stated that they have two huge vendor deals for mobile GPUs to two vendors they can't talk about right now for 2016. It's quite possible one of those is Nintendo.
The iPhone 5s/iPad Air (last year's Apple A7 processor) destroys the Vita for performance, even if Nintendo went with that level of power in 2016 when it will be dated they would demolish the Vita. The Vita is basically the same chip as the iPad 3.

Late 2016, I'm thinking. Home console six to 12 months later. A lot will depend on what kind of software pipeline Nintendo can get running. Whatever launches next, needs to work well from day one. This generation has been turbulent enough, so Nintendo really need to justify their hardware centric approach.

Why so?
Terrible is a strong word..
Waiting til your system is literally not selling is quite a bad move and 3DS is down YOY everywhere I believe and software is drying up, theres no reason why the in 2 years time it will still be selling like hotcakes. Introduce a successor a few years into its decline seems the smarter move, as opposed to releasing it after the system is dead.
