Vita has been $199.99 for over a year now and is most likely sold at a profit (can't imagine Sony would sell it at a loss considering how poorly it sells). 3DS' successor is likely coming in 2016 or 2017 so 3-4 years after Vita hit $199.99, it's not out of the question that a decently more powerful device could be sold at that price in that amount of time.
