There are plenty of additions they can make to the game, but I see absolutely no reason for them to make any more home console iterations. The game just doesn't need to be on a console when it can be on a handheld, at least now that handhelds are up to snuff. Sort of like how they refuse to make a console Pokemon game; they feel it's just not necessary.

I loved the one on Gamecube, because it was the first one. Then the DS one came around and I was like, "This is perfect now. This is purely better." Then I got City Folk and was completely underwhelmed. Part of that was because they barely added anything, but also because it just didn't feel right anymore on a home console. It was the same game as always, just limited to my TV now. Then New Leaf came around and once again I was just like, "Yes. Perfection again," especially with all the Street Pass functionality.

I know they probably will, but I kind of hope they don't release one for the Wii U, unless they somehow integrate mind-blowing new features that the 3DS couldn't even dream of (and that doesn't seem likely for a life sim).

Will be a launch title for the Fusion platform in 2016. Maybe Wii U will get a port, but I doubt it. Earlier in the year Nintendo seemed iffy on whether or not it would be for Wii U or some "future hardware":

"The current gameplay style of Animal Crossing is best suited for a portable device," Eguchi said, "but if we were to create an Animal Crossing for a home console, I think we would really have to invent a new style that's suitable for the platform. The environment in which the player is playing the game is very important, so we need to think that through before we start creating something like that.

"We might not have been able to do that for Wii," he said, "but whether it's the Wii U or a future hardware, it's important to think about what environment the player will be in."

That's terrible information for me.  So sad to see it.  The console experience is so awesome.  Even if it means that I have to watch my roommate or gf play the game while they take care of their "chores."  It creates a great sense of community in a household. It also rewards early risers who get to get out there and snag fossils.  I really hope that information they posted is just typical Nintendo denial.

Well Fusion will likely be different hardware variants that all play the same games. So there almost certainly will be a home variant ... so you'll be able to play at home if you want (and buy the home version). It just won't be on Wii U, which is basically a lost cause for Nintendo at this point anyway.

WiiU is most certainly not a lost cause.  Plenty of games soon to come.  People have been sticking a fork in the system since it released (and in Nintendo before last gen).  Zelda U is still on the horizon, as are a plethora of really fun games.  The sales may not be there to support third parties, but there are plenty of consoles in the wild to support Nintendo's first party efforts...which is what Nintendo fans do anyway.

It's a business decision, I know fans feel one way, but Nintendo has to make harder decisions basd on business. First of all the Animal Crossing franchise almost always sells better on handheld, so having it on Fusion would likely result in far higher sales.

Secondly they cannot repeat the poor launches of Wii U/3DS again with Fusion. If they do they literally could be out of the hardware business, it's far too competetive now for them to f*ck around with. The next hardware will have to have a killer launch and post-launch.

In that scenario Animal Crossing can make a big difference for the Fusion early on. For Wii U? It's not changing anything by 2015 the Wii U is basically what it is, no game is going to make it a "successful" platform if Mario Kart/Mario 3D/Mario 2D/Zelda/Smash etc. couldn't.

I think it will be announced at E3 2015, but if you have a 3DS I definitely recommend new leaf

If what you're saying is true...then I highly doubt that a successor will do much better.  The taste of the console market has obviously been established and the fluke of the Wii is a success story that probably won't be repeated.  The "hard" business decision they will need to make is that if they abandon the WiiU, the loyal Nintendo fanbase is likely to riot.  Without them, they really have nothing.  Nintendo will continue to release games for this system well into 2016...and they will be rewarded for their efforts by the faithful.

I'm not arguing against your wisdom...I know the things you say to be true.  I'm just bringing in more food for thought.  Nintendo has had a hard enough time playing catch up with software in this generation.  I have a hard time believing that they think they can support 3 game systems while not alienating their existing audience.  Do you really think next generation will go any different for them?

I know I'm helping to derail my own thread here...and I'd really like just to get back to the happy thoughts of an Animal Crossing on WiiU.  I suppose I'll just continue to be oblivious to the current market scenarios and dream of a time when all my favorite franchises get released on one system.

Poll has been added.

New Leaf was perfect for a handheld experience (in my opinion, of course)...
For home consoles, I think a "more realistic" experience might be cool...
Animals that actually look like animals and not cure anthropomorphic cartoon characters...
Wild World and New Leaf prove that handhelds and Animal Crossong go together perfectly...
I think a unique experience on home consoles will be more effective than hoping to simply emulate what we've seen on handhelds...

Have a nice day...

I'm confident that Wii U will get an animal crossing game in its lifetime.
The last Ninty console that didn't was the SNES.

Honestly, I feel that Animal Crossing works best on a handheld. While another console iteration would be nice, my favorites in the series are still Wild World and New Leaf as the game feels like something that I'll pick up, play on a bus ride and put it away. Although for the next game, I'd say 2016.

Don't really care too much about the franchise (I only really played the original on GC when it first came out), but I really think with added Miiverse integration and some more online components it could be a really awesome experience and a big step forward for the franchise.

It really just seems like a perfect fit.
