Well-established online communities: SONY AND MICROSOFT = brand fidelity and hours consumed within the time available to the player to play.

Nintendo is paying the price for not having invested in online.

Game Over.

For the Wii U pretty much. But not for Nintendo. Their next console could well do everything it needs to do to compete and be very succesful.

But before they need to develop a huge online community, because if everyone is playing online on a xbox or playstation and all of their friends stand there.....Why do they need to buy other console?

Well it will be for next gen, so PS5/Xbox Two won't have any online community to start with either. Plenty of people changed from Xbox to PS or vice versa this gen, so there is no reason why they couldn't change to Nintendo next gen if they can compete on that front.

this will only be true if Wii U survive till the end of this generation. If Nintendo starts other console in the middle of this generation, xbox and playstation brands already have their established communities.

Seems like an odd time to make this post. Nintendo are surely going to have their most profitable quarter in years.

Unless Nintendo designs a new gimmick that attracts the likes of soccer mums, care home residents and kids under 11, there is absolutely nothing they can do to prevent the wiiu from selling less than the gamecube.

Having said that, I am stunned at the Wii U sales. It seems to be holding fine this far especially considering how over priced the thing is and how dismal the 3rd party support is. It should be no more than $150.

I just need to point out "remove the gamepad" is not anymore an option for Wii U than removing the Keyboard is for Windows. It is an integral part of the interface for a large amount of the software as well as the OS.

Soo.... You want everyone to buy a touch-screen TV and have us stand right in front of it to use it? I don't know what this is supposed to prove.

No, I don't want "everyone to buy a touch-screen TV and have us stand right in front of it to use it".

Jumpin said, a keyboard for Windows ain't optional... but it is nowadays. Many programs will profit from a connected keyboard and/or mouse, many others won't. It totally depends on which programs you personally want to use on the device.

The same goes for the WiiU... some people don't want or need the additional features of the tablet controller, they would play the compatible WiiU games with the Pro controller anyways. And if they change their mind later, they could buy the tablet controller as accessory.

All Nintendo really needs to do is release software on the Wii U. The biggest source of income is software sales, not hardware hence why console manufacturers are okay with selling a console at a loss.

As for the Wii U being outsold by the Xbox 1, this is irrelevant. I do believe as long as the Wii U brings in more than Nintendo paid out getting it to market, all else is irrelevant. It's the same reason a mom and pop restaurant can stay in business regardless of the fact that McDonald's and Starbucks sold more burgers and coffee respectively in the same time period.

Take all the aforementioned with a grain of salt though; I'm not business savvy and may be wrong.

Totes agree! I'm becoming increasingly less concerned with how good or bad Microsoft and Sony are doing. As long as Nintendo does enough to make at least a little profit (and not any loss), then they can hold off on rushing their next device until they, and the market, are ready for it. If the Wii U can just hand in there for a few more years and give Nintendo either a profit or at least negate losses, then Nintendo will be ready for their glorious comeback with the Thwii.

FIrst, it was wii would like to play.

Then it was Wii would like you to play.

Now, will all Thwii like to play?

The Wii U is making a profit now, they honestly don't care about hardware sales anymore, the care about profit on games, and they are making profit on games. They are sitting pretty, we are making the big deal.

Man I'm going to get some you all a Hall's. Your throats must be soar from crying wolf. If Michael Pachter of all people is saying the Wii U has a chance to profit, then I think Nintendo knows they are making the right moves.

Actually given his track record, they should worry lol.

Also,

3DS. Nuff Said.

SBBU sold 481k in the span of two days globally.

Is this another globally in the USA thread?

Lol, but no it isn't. According to VGChartz SSBU sold 419k in the US.

Nintendo is now making good profit on each sold console with current price, and 1st party games are selling very good, about 90% of all sold Wii U games are 1st party, and most important, Wii U owners are satisfied with Nintendo support.
On other side, Microsoft currently taking losses with Xbox One, but they are Microsoft and surely they can afford them.
