New console models generally coincide with price cuts.

The newer Xbox 360 models didn't get much smaller by the way. The new look and quieter hardware was more of an incentive to buy a new model 360 than size.

strange that pricecuts didn't help the x1 then. Maybe you're incorrect?

I don't understand what you're saying, elaborate.

Well, you're countering my point by saying that slim consoles draw more sales due to coinciding price cuts. I'm countering that the 100$ price "alleviation" didn't help x1....which if you look back, is true.
So, I'm saying, maybe price cuts don't actually affect sales all the time, and in turn, I'm saying that maybe you're not as correct as you think you are. Does that make sense, or no?

Conversely there was also that time when ms announced the 360 slim and cut the price of the console above to match the new slim price, yet sales didn't increase until the slim.

Its oversized because they wanted it to be the only thing sitting in the living room.

Think back to their early marketing campaign. They were selling the XB1 as a one stop, do everything for you living room entertainment device. So naturally they'd want a design that would dominate the living room surface (as stupid as that sounds, I can see Microsoft thing along those bullshit lines).

I also assume that's why they designed it to look like one of those atrocious DVD/VCR combo machines from back in the day.

Okay...

Actually there was a sales boost after the X1 "alleviation," sales were worse prior to the "alleviation." The problem is a $399 X1 is still too expensive.

The X1 has seen a massive boost since becoming cheaper than PS4 and having games bundled. This shows the X1 is appealing to many consumers, MS just dropped the ball on price.

You're wrong about pricing of the 360 S model. The 360 did not get a price cut for the launch of the S model, a non-HDD console was $199 well before the S model was announced.

i actually really like the xbox 1 power supply being separated as it enables it to be switched out if it brakes or if you import a consoles from different region, if they get special versions of consoles like a hello kitty edition the dreamcast got for example. But despite this the thing still is way bigger than the ps4. It seems MS really feared another RRoD debacle and over sized and cooled the thing.

I also dont like how the console looks, from all 3 consoles i think the ps4 for my taste looks the best. The ps4 looks like consoles used to be in all honestly. The wiiU is clearly designed like the PS2 and all consoles who followed that concept of putting your consoles vertically to look like pcs or in the wiius case due to its smaller size like a wireless modem. Meanwhile the X1 looks more like a VCR type device or other video equipment. Sony was the only one who literary thought out of the box and shaped at least their console a bit different than just another quader like design. They also put two USB ports at the front which makes it even more like consoles used to be while x1 has them at the side.

I hope MS and Nintendo follow the example of Sony and let this whole PS2 scheme die and go back to their roots with their newer designs.

Well that was a bit harsh.

It should be because that more than just a slap in the face to fans.

Did you see the picture of the inside?

ahhhh... the beauty of forcing someone else to change their words.

it's gonna be a good thanksgiving!!

poor PS4

Well we already know Sony does a better job at making hardware.

Now if they could do something about broken updates...

Depends on the part of the hardware.
The Ps4 cooling system is really bad (so was the Ps3)
The Xb1 cooling system is great. The X360 was bad, too

The 8GB shared GDDR 5 is nuts, ofc
They took the risk and were lucky. Well played, well played, Sony

spike not boost. sales went back to normal.

It's holiday season in the us. Obviously sales are going to pick up.

the arcade was 199$

However, when the slim was released it replaced some model and all those models were dropped some percentage for 2 weeks prior to clear stock.

No, sales were still better at $399 than $499. Also, its safe to presume sales would have been worse without that change.

Yeah, its the holidays but the sales increase is massive. The $50 reduction played a role in that sales boost, not a newly designed console.

True, there was a price cut on old Xbox 360 models for the S model launch. But we have no idea how many of those were still available.

Xbox One does allow more air-flow to it's fan. It allows the console to run quietly and not have any over heating issues, that were too common for 360. Microsoft knew they could not have that same issue again.

About console revisions.... I don't see too many people replacing their larger Xbox One consoles for smaller ones? I've never replaced a console unless it didn't work. They're all going to do the same thing anyway. Play games. Unless you need an extra inch of room, or whatever a slim would give you, or you just don't like the design of the original, why would you care about when a slim model comes out?

If I personally, were interested in an Xbox One, I know the last thing on my mind would be how big the console is. It would go in the same spot my large PS3 is in and my PS3 would go somewhere else.

Speaking from a design standpoint, both systems are fine... Wish PS4 Had more vents, but as long as it works without breaking it's fine. Same goes for Xbox one.

What I don't like about either console is that they both are simply not very good looking. PS4 looks like a discarded piece that fell off Metal Gear Rex, and the Xbox does look like a VCR, or something.

I don't think Metal Gear Rex is a bad design, but you get what I mean. Neither console is perfect, but size is the last thing on my mind. Hell, there are times my PS3 gets stupid-loud so anything different at this point would be fine. It's bothersome, yeah, but it isn't like it's impacting my experience a whole lot.
