Forums - Gaming - Eating Crow

@1 - game delays can be good. i feel this is situational as some delay can be absurd (TLG i'm looking at you). really what we need is fewer announcements that are 2+ years out. when a game is announced they should be confident they can ship within a year.

@2 - no opinion, i'm not a fan of the franchise at all.

@3 - my opinion has changed here too. ubi used to be pretty cool but this gen it has been failure after failure.

I'll admit I certainly didn't think that the PS4 (and to a lesser extent, the XB1) would do this well in year one. Luckily, I still have plenty of crow leftovers in my freezer from how well I thought WiiU would perform.

1. Game Delays

My Original Stance: They are terrible and reflect poorly on the developer and publisher.

My New Stance: We need more delays.

After playing MCC multiplayer and Assassin's Creed Unity/Rogue, I truly believe that games should be delayed more. I was wrong when I insisted that games being delayed reflected poorly on the people who made them. A few months of delay to iron out some issues is much preferable to have a completely broken game at launch.

Your new stance is a excuse for poorly developer/publisher schedule and management.

The game don't need to be delayed to be good... it needs to be planned with the right date... instead to push a holiday 2014 launch just say your game is scheduled to March 2015.

Say we needs delays is a terrible ideia... anybody that works on any software project knows if you need delay a project is because you planned it wrong.

Games needs to have good planning.

Yea I agree! This gen truly is going to be about changes loll. For better or for worse

My crow is hating on indies. Sure, there is still a crapload of puzzle platformers and sidescrolling/twin-stick shooters, and sure, I still consider myself shortchanged by PS+ as none of those indies interested me at all, but...
...after seeing No Man's Sky, The Tomorrow Children, Hellblade, Rime, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Wild.... I can safely say that many of my most anticipated games in 2015 are indies.
Never will I speak badly about the general idea of indie games...but surely there will still be many many bad ones coming.

I have also changed a bit my opinion about Ubisoft.. At one point I even thought Ubisoft was the best 3rd party publisher! No joke! :/

That's what people with false opinions think.

1. Agreed, complain more about broken games, less about delays. Do not pre-order or buy on day 1.
2. But but remasters are evil and graphics don't make a better game, maybe they do....
3. Far Cry 4 is pretty awesome. Can't generalize the whole company. (Hmm ok, it's garbage on PC too, just a tiny part of the company made something competent)

I get that, but if the game is made by companies like Rockstar or Naughty Dog, I don't think this rule should apply. With EA and Ubisoft though ... yeah.

Didn't GTA 4 have problems on pc? At least they're doing the smart thing this time and delay the pc version until it's ready. Naughty dog is taking their time too.

Buying games in Q4 generally is risky business. Half of them or more are bound to have been rushed to meet the holiday deadline. I'm glad Far Cet 4 works so far on consoles, still expecting it to blow up any moment :/ Now what mess will The crew be in when it releases next week... Ubisoft + MMO + already delayed yet just a few weeks to still meet the holiday deadline.

Yeah, GTA IV on pc wasn't good, but I game on consoles and I thought - unlike many others - that GTA IV was really good. And The Crew, yeah ... always online sucks and an always online game from Ubisoft after the all the stunts they pulled this year. Fuck that!

Many times complications come up during development that require the game to be delayed. This generation especially, where the codes for games are so complex, there is a high chance for a game to come out buggy. Publishers will try to force a release date to meet holiday rush and appease stock holders, but this has negatively affected games. Sometimes, publishers just need to admit defeat and give the devs more time to polish their work.
