Forums - Gaming - MS Exclusive Third Party Advertising No Longer Makes Sense.

I think you're overestimating the effectiveness of exclusive advertising rights. Even the PS4 version of Destiny, despite being treated like an exclusive by Sony, still didn't even manage to double its XBO sales. Consumers aren't THAT stupid. Even with exclusive advertising, most people know what's exclusive and what isn't.

Sony can't/doesn't pay for it, MS does. MS then gets exclusive third party advertising, by paying for it.

It makes a lot of sense. As a developer, you put things where the money is given. It doesn't matter if that one turns out to be the least-selling version, because at the end of the day you still profit from Xbox One, Ps4 and the exclusive advertising rights.

Disagree bro. Look at bloodborne. Plus huge number of sony's first party studios decreased the need for third party exclusives to a huge margin.

Um, Sony did it last generation when it wouldn't sell as much then. Did they give up?

Exclusive advertising isn't just about the game, its more about promoting the console.

I think people have trouble coming to that obvious conclusion. MS needs to advertise their console and they do so with major releases.

Again, I know that Sony pays for exclusive advertisement too. I was just quoting the OP regarding the examples of Microsoft paying whereas Sony didn't xD

Got it.

That's a silly question. Devs want money. And I think that considering the fact PS4 has almost double the install base, I think the exclusive advertising helps a lot.

It takes $$$ to advertise, so right now MS & Sony are both sharing some of it. If Sony could afford all of it, maybe publishers would just go to them. On the other hand, both userbases are large enough that publishers want to appeal to both, so if they never show any love to one side they will be hurting themselves too.

Activision - Destiny on PS4, COD on XB1
Ubisoft - FC4 on PS4, AC:U on XB1

EA has been more on XB1's side thanks to Titanfall, Madden, EA Access...
