Forums - Gaming - Nintendo's Holiday commercials are simply AWFUL...

Wow, I can tell by the response nobody has there own family so far. The first commercial was there best one and very good. Had a little humor with the dad getting whooped by his son after he was talking smack. I do that to my daughter, who is nine, sometimes.Talk a little smack before hand. The second was obviouslly made for kids for Nickoledeon, Disney, and Cartoon Network(before Adult Swim), so no need for this kind of reaction. the third one though was lame but had some good qualities to it.
Sorry Nintendo doesn't put mass budgets into their commercials like Sony or Microsoft does but this is why Nintensdo is a nice Profitable company majority of the time.

I agree. These are wrong.

Only the Smash U ads are fine imho.....

They MUST appeal to the core market................................

Nintendo is a family first (and second) company, I think we need to just accept that.

They can't sell/move "mature" games ... Bayonetta 2 flopped, they haven't really had a "blockbuster" hit with the "mature" audience since GoldenEye like ... 17 years ago (!) now.

If Amiibo is a hit, expect Nintendo to become more focused on the toy/kids market than even before.

That's fine though. Someone has to fill this role in the industry, it may as well be Nintendo.

Sony/MS own the hardcore male gamers teenager-adult market. There just isn't any room there for Nintendo anymore, especially now that they literally have nothing in the way of third party support. Nintendo isn't even trying to compete for that crowd anymore.

They're not that bad when compared to the commercials of last holiday season and the launch, though the amiibo commercial is horribly cringe-inducing.

Their 'family playing together' ads can be incredibly cringe worthy, but they're not really aimed at us. It's hard for Nintendo to chase after the core market with ads since they have to battle with not only Sony and MS's ads, but those of ever major publisher (whose games are often not on Nintendo platforms). It's easier for them to go after the family market, and to them, these types of ads can be pretty effective.

Yeah those ads are awful.

They're actually not even *that* bad. The commercial's last year were worse.

Nintendo is just never going to be "cool" ... not unless they have a radical change in their leadership and radically alter the types of games they make.

Nintendo is the sugary-sweet, family-friendly option in the industry.

They've never really been able to sell mature games that well anyway ... Resident Evil wasn't a big system mover on the GameCube, Perfect Dark sold OK but not as good as GoldenEye, Conker was a miss, their more recent efforts in trying to make Metroid a must-have "bad-ass" IP ala Halo or something haven't taken off either. Bayonetta was a sales dud too.

They just don't have the audience backing to make a move here. Family friendly gaming is what they know, the first Nintendo console is called the Family Computer (Famicom) for crying out loud, lol. They are what they are, I think we as Nintendo fans who have grown older sometimes wish they would grow up, but that's just not Nintendo.

First two weren't bad at all (just not aimed at you) and the third one wasn't a TV spot so its pretty much irrelevant. No need to complain about something so inoffensive @.@

Why do both commercials focus on Mario Kart?

Advertising MK7 takes away from MK8 a bit. Not only that but when your Holiday commercials focus on a 6 month old game & a 3 year old game...it doesn't look all that great.

They weren't very good, but that kid's mom in the amiibo video is waaay do-able...
