Forums - Gaming - Nintendo's Holiday commercials are simply AWFUL...

Nintendo hasn't had great commercials imo since the NES and SNES generation. Sure, they're cheesy as hell now but back then they were awesome.

They weren't horrible at all. I do question advertising MK7 on 3DS vs. Smash or something newer or upcoming. I'm a husband and father and look forward to playing Nintendo with my daughters.

You're probably being a bit generous there. They were outmarketed badly by Sega during the 16-bit wars.

Honestly Nintendo could've taken a dump on commercials like this pretty easily as the Super NES was more powerful than the Genesis.

It's not adverts that appeal to me but I'm not the target demographic for those averts.

Mario Kart 8 one wasn't bad, but I hate how all of them go for the "Super Kiddy" just to make Nintendo's image worse with the general public

Video game commercials are always pretty bad for the most part but they are always geared seemingly to casual video gamers. Only they would be impressed with Microsoft's endless "Xbox One only $349" or "Get new content first on Xbox" blurbs. The best commercials seemingly are for games on the PC or those that Sony/Microsoft didn't partner with.

Nintendo likes and wants the kids-first image they have.

Look at the games in your sig, there's so much color/cute factor there it would make Walt Disney himself blush.

Yes, but it seems like they are only doing this in US and EU

The TV commercial for Smash U in Japan is MUCH better

I'm guessing NOA's reasoning here is that they're not going to win with the teenager/adult crowd no matter what, so they are trying to double down on the kids/family demographic that they are losing to Apple.

That said as stated above, NOA's marketing honestly hasn't been good for ages now. It really wasn't even during the Super NES days. Occasionally they make a good commercial, but that's about it.

Japan may have better marketing, but looking at Wii U sales, it sure isn't translating to better sales in that region.

How does one make an amiibo commercial aimed towards "core" gamers?
