In order to remaster a game like Xenoblade you would have to play test the entire game and a game that span over 70 hours this is problematic. You do understand that the install base on WiiU is much much smaller than Wii. Xenoblade HD would flop base on the current install base. It's a teen rated game that caters to RPG fans. The target audience that own a WiiU probably already own the Wii version. In order for Xenoblade Chronicles X to suceed it need to build up expectation and customers interest. Xenoblade HD would actual work against Xenoblade Chronicles X, it's such a long game that after playing Xenoblade HD it would create genre fatigue. Why would anyone want 120-140hours of RPG gaming, most 10 hours game don't ever get finish let alone large game like Xenoblade. What makes more sense to grow the Xenoblade brand??? Xenoblade HD or Xenoblade 3DS? Nintendo has already made that choice. Xenoblade 3ds is meant to grow the market and interest in Xenoblade. 3ds will soon have a 50 million install base that's much better then the small WiiU base.

Yeah, and you wouldn't have to play and test the game on 3DS? lol Again, it is easier to port to the Wii U because it shares the same architecture with the 3DS. Just look how fast Windwaker HD took to make (6 months) and that is a 25 hour game.
As for sales, Nintendo seems to not have a concern about Xenoblade X releasing on the Wii U. Since the most expensive parts of game development are resource development and advertisement, the costs of an HD remake are minimal, as both those things are already completed. The targetted audience that bought Xenoblade on Wii are the ones who bought the Wii U. It was the ones who didn't buy Xenoblade who didn't buy the Wii U. So I don't think it will flop as much as you think. You forgot that Xenoblade is releasing for the NEW 3DS, not the 3DS. But question: how many people will have a new 3DS upon Xenoblade 3D's release? I can assure you it will be fewer than the Wii U's install base.
