Why? Their stories are not connected. It's like saying, I won't buy TLoZ: Skyward Sword because I've never played Spirit Tracks. 

But that really wouldn't make any sense because Spirit Tracks is a sequel to Skyward Sword.

From what I'm gathering of what we've seen so far, if Xenoblade X connects at all to Xenoblade it is because X s a prequel not a sequel. So it is a good analogy.
