Damn! I dont know if Nintendo can win Japan anymore.

Even Ps4 releasing games like this, it still tops the charts.

The wii u gets hardly any games, but when they do, they hardly sell.

dont worry the king of wii u games will return on december 6

Bets:

(Won)Bet with TechoHobbit: He(Techno) says 10 million by January 1,2014 I say 9 million by then. Winner gets 2 weeks of sig control.

(Lost)Bet with kinisking: I say Ps4 will win April NPD while he says Xbox One will win it; winner gets 1 week of avatar control.

People dont seem to realise how niche Captain Toad is and also likely how cheap it was to make. Like someone else said, the main resource used for this was likely creativity.

Ha, missed this thread this week.  Media Create didn't quite turn out how this predicted.

Pokemon probably costs peanuts to develop compared to other stuff, but if it sold like 200k first week (which would likely more than recoup costs), that'd still be a disappointing performance.

Flop Captain performing as expected.

Key difference: Pokemon costs a hell lot to market, and has a merch empire to support.

Captain Toad is neither of those.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:3

Captain Toad will have "Nintendo legs", I expect. Debut week isn't great timing, since CoD is stealing the thunder. Let the PSVita and PS4 have a week in the sun. Next week 3DS will be back on top, and Wii U will continue to do well thanks to Captain Toad, the MK8 bundles, and Smash in three weeks.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

And yet, Captain Toad had plenty of TV marketing in Japan (albeit closer to release date than it probably should've been).

If we're poking key differences then the fact that Pokemon sells in the 10s of millions should be one.  But the point was - low budget =/= selling low is a success.  If it's what the publisher expected (i.e. Compile Heart) then it can be a success.  If it's not what the publisher expects (i.e. any bigger publisher) then it's not as clear cut.  Given the sellthrough we've had in Famitsu, I don't think anyone can proclaim "Captain Toad had a low budget so it's a success even with low numbers!" unless they're using it as damage control.

Wait a while and see what the legs are.  I expect they'll be good, but this week's sales are far from encouraging.
