I get what you're saying, but it seems like a pretty arbitrary reason to want a console maker to go 3rd party. Dumping hardware has very negative implications for a company, just look at companies like Sega & Atari. Nintendo would have to layoff a lot of people to make that transition, and there's really no way to be sure it wouldn't affect their ability to make quality software.

I'm actually one of the few that agree that Nintendo should go third party. I feel like a lot of people reject the idea without actually looking at how it would benefit them. One of these days I want to write an opinion piece on it or something, though I guess I'll need to be up for the effort before I do. (Effort sucks.)

If I had to condense the idea though, it's that Nintendo consoles have been selling less and less every generation literally since the beginning (with the Wii being an anomaly that temporarily hit on a new part of the market which has now been lost). The demand for their consoles is just not there--it's pure numbers. Their software is limited by their console numbers, yet it STILL sells well. Nintendo games on platforms that didn't have to struggle to get into homes would flourish.

During the Wii era I was convinced that Nintendo's unique hardware was important for their business, because they were inventing new ways to play. Now with the Wii U I just want some fucking games and I don't care how I play them, because if this was really their followup to the Wii then they really are no longer the hardware masterminds they used to be.

Buuuuut, I'm prepared to be disagreed with. The third party idea is pretty taboo amongst Nintendo gamers.

I continue to be surprised by how devoted people are to third party titles that are released on an annual basis and in general lack any degree of creativity or deviation from previous entries. It's easy for people to pan Nintendo for producing "Mario-machines" but really owning a console is about owning exclusive content you can't get anywhere else and Nintendo's Wii U has more of that then any other current gen console out there right now.

I'm not saying that it isn't fun to play an Assassin's Creed/COD every now and again ... but i will call BS on anyone that says not being able to play a game like that is a deal breaker. You've played one and you've played them all. I would actually recommend the 3rd party titles that actually made it over to the Wii U. The game pad really makes the experience much better - the amount of menu wading is significantly decreased and worth the price of admission alone.

I don't want third party for them ever. Worse case scenario they have all their games exclusive to one company (keep the Nintendo faithful United on one device).

I got the Wii U. Picked it up this summer 6 months back. Got 7 new games and one used game in my collection. Even got that Disney Infinity thing with 8 or 9 figurines for it. The Wii U has is a nice console and it gets played with almost everyday here. I like their games and quality of them. My only gripe of the console is the controller it uses. The added cost of it isn't worth the unique gaming experiance between some titles that harness that tablet controller.

It's still a good system and I'm glad I got it. I just hope more people would pick it up. Best thing to do for it are to keep making those games from Nintendo for the Wii U and in my own opinion is to allow future games and the console itself to allow the pro controller to take the place of the tablet. I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen with not selling the tablet controller with the Wii U. Just for future referance, because of it. Feels more like it's holding it back.
