Sony and Microsoft can't do what Nintendo does. They've been doing it for some time now. I'm not downplaying because MS and Sony do things that Nintendo doesn't care to do too. Nintendo provides experiences that can't be found on any other console. Even if they are losing popularity in the console market, they'll always be around. Most companies that have been around for 100+ years has to be doing something right. And they might be in the past in terms of some things but Nintendo will respond to overwhelming response sooner or later. DVDs, Internal Storage, Online, none of that was in Nintendo's plans. Once it took off they began to do it too. That doesn't mean Nintendo isn't innovative or they copy either as internal storage, online, CD based games were all before Sony and MS and even Nintendo. Nintendo's innovation is defined by the ideas that they make like the D-Pad, Dual Screen Gaming, etc. It's their ideas only. That's why I don't have an issue with them. Their goal is to make money. Some criticize them for not making certain products when we don't even know the first thing about making a AAA game. Nintendo has so much money they don't have to worry about the same issues that befell Sega and Atari. Nintendo has the ability to have a runaway show or a snail.
They learn from their mistakes and that's why they're still around. You're gonna make mistakes, you're gonna have people that don't like you but does that necessarily mean you stop doing what you're doing, even if you are still making a ton of money? No, it doesn't. I will defend anyone who is being treated unfairly not just Nintendo as my post can be applicable to many different companies.
