MCC was never this high though and it had major online flaws around launch. Smash is lucky because reviews are up way before the game is released for "public testing"

Lucky? No matter how you cut it, though Online is important and im looking forward to it, SSB has always been one of the biggest local player games and thats where its popular at. MCC as a FPS needs to be online (at least for most gamers). Like Splatoon i can see being harsh for on reviewers as its multiplayer heavily will focus online.

You know what I mean. Even if Smash has online problems when it launches (which I do expect) it won't get marked down for it on Meta since most reviews will already be up.

All the major reviews(The ones that make a significant difference on the metascore) are waiting for the Online.

Post Arcade (National Post) - 8.0/10

First score under 90.

Complaining about the lack of story mode, which is a very silly reason to deduct points in a fighting game. He's going to complain about a lack of story in Fifa next?

Subspace was the worst part of Brawl

Weather I agree with his score or not I can agree that a lack of Story mode is a negative. Ive never played a fighter without one and its usually where I spend most my time. Also if FIFA had no story mode next year its sales would half, we call it career mode where you play through the story of you player and/or manager =P

The story modes present in other fighters (such as Tekken, Street Fighter or Soulcalibur) are just a series of battles with a couple lines of dialogue wrapped around it. Smash actually has this pretty much covered with classic mode (several fighters and a boss) and all star mode (battle all fighters). This reviewer expected a story mode similar to Subspace from Brawl which was really more of a platformer than a fighter.

I'll admit I was wrong on FIFA though =P

Nah, look at the op. 11 reviews, this game will get over 80 reviews if mk8 is anything to go by. Majority will have online in their scores, thats the only reason we are waiting for the other 70+ reviews right now.

That metascore just won't budge.

Are some sites waiting for online? I wonder how thaf will affect the score. But I would also like to know how well the online is since I don't have many people to play smash with locally.

But looks like the game is great without the online factor so I'll buy it for event mode, CPU training, and the awesome soundtrack.
