Just to be clear...

Slow motion (to look more cinematic and all) is different from framerate drop... the slow motion happens at the actual framerate wothout any drop.

Like I said... some guys like to well date some ugly things.

So basically, rather than contributing anything to the discussion, you feel that the most appropriate thing to do is to mock me and, it seems, some other people for having a different perspective from yours?

That's an interesting aspect that you like.

Now that you mention it, sometimes, an explosion causing the framerate to drop can make the explosion seem more "cinematic" and powerful. Maybe It's more tolerable there because I'm usually not in control whenever such a large explosion would happen.

But other than that, I never want my framerate to drop while I'm in control.

When I play Touhou, and the framerate drops when I'm trying to graze...

...Let's just say that shit hits the fan.

Gameplay in Touhou is calculated by frame, not by time. So if the framerate drops by half, then the game will play at half speed.

I've never had framerate issues in the game though. I've always maintained a solid 60fps in each game, even in some of the worst Spell Cards. Dat Double Master Spark in 8.

The thing is that it ruins my timing, and i'm a bad enough player as is.

There are times when I wish the frame rate would just drop, though, like those high movement spellcards.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:3

I remember this happening to some NES games back in the day. When too many enemies were onscreen, frames would drop and make it choppy. Gave it a bit of an epic feel. Like a bullet time before The Matrix lol

Well I've never played a Musou that didn't have framerate drops so its pretty much expected when it comes to those games.

Try turning down the graphics to 16-bit and playing music as MIDI (Or turn off music completely) to reduce unwanted frame drops.

Touhou 7 and 8 have a "Slow Mode" option that intentionally slows the framerate when there's a lot of bullets. But you can't record hi-scores or replays when you use this option.

I think slowdowns because of framerate drops are annoying and take me out of the experience.

Most of the time I agree. Which is why I find it so curious that it doesn't feel like that in Hyrule Warriors for me. It's not about how much I like the game - there have been other games I loved, but I'd get frustrated by framerate drops.

What Xeon said basically captures it - something about the way it happens, and the conditions, gives it a kind of "epic" feel. Like it adds extra punctuation to the moment. It doesn't seem to happen much during regular movement (even when there's a lot of foes around), only when you're massively beating up a large group of foes.

What does, for me, take me out of the experience is when the game interrupts you with something (like appearance of a particular foe, or a chest, etc), part way through an attack, meaning that the attack doesn't complete properly. While the October update has allowed us to disable major-character introductions in Adventure mode, we can't cancel those interruptions, and sometimes it costs you (I had an interruption that happened at an inopportune time, recently, resulting in one of the allies leaving the battlefield).

Shadow of the Colossus on PS2 comes to mind. I remember reading somewhere that a few people felt it was better on PS2 than PS3 at times because the drops to 10fps made the colossi attacks and death scenes more.... mmm... pronounced. Or perhaps a better word would be "Impactful".
