People are going to move goalposts and change defintion to make things look better. Its nature. When WIi was winning nobody brought up the profit thing. They didnt need too. Numbers were clear. Now that they are on a fast track to dead last some wanna change the defintion of what a failure is.

The reason why they bring up profit because it was their cash cow. Everyone knew it was the GameCube with motion controls did not lose any money at launch because they spent little money into the hardware itself.

yeah. that wasnt my point though. Doesnt change that people will change their definition to make the situation look better.

But i couldnt help but notice. you didnt really answer Vitro's question. Why are those people who bought Wii not buying wii U? cause by your own logic most of them must not liked Wii very much.

So more common sense for you. It is almost certain the 18-22 demographic lose interest in NINTENDO because of the whole "being to kiddie" perception. I went through it when I bought my PSOne. But once that perception wears off people will see it s a myth perception. They are the ONLY console that gives two shits about the kids. Reason why it wil dominate this holiday.

Here was my answer since you did not want to read it earlier.

I read it and i ignored it because that didnt answer my question.  When did the 18-22 demographic lose interest in Nintendo? after the WIi? were they the ones really playing WIi in the first place. And where were they for GC and N64 since those numbers were low. Give me an actual reason why the drop for WIi U is so big coming off from Wii.

The constant pummeling of Nintendo/Wii U is doomed stuff is what drove me away of this website (posting and visiting 95% less than I used to in my prior 8 years here), combined with the insufferable and unwarrented arrogance of Sony fanboys. I've pretty much come to accept that it's never going to leave, thus I had to.

The vast majority of self proclaimed "hardcore" gamers have a mad obsession with Nintendo completely biting the dust. Why? I will never know. They are the best gaming company in existance, and have been since the 80s. Yet these people shun them, while praising the souless corporate machines that continue to crank out the same generic stuff from Sony and MS, who care nothing about gamers.. This has baffled me since 2001 and still does.

Stop with the "can anything save the Wii U", "can wiiu outsell console X", "can Wii U this or that", and all other related BS! Seriously, enough with this nonsense.

Wii U will be saved the minute it starts turning profit for the company.

Yahoo! PSV is saved!!!

It's pretty clear to anyone being realistic that the Wii U has fallen far short of its predecessor and will essentially be the 8th gen's GameCube, but that's not the only measure of success for the platform.

All the Wii U has to do is remain relevant by simply staying on the market and selling well enough to produce enough software sales to justify continued software support by Nintendo.

Would end consumers like to see more third party support? That should go without saying, but it shouldn't be taken as a given, based upon the typical sales performance of third party games; they simply sell better on other platforms. As always, the best reason to buy any Nintendo hardware is for Nintendo's own games.

As far as profitability goes, the Wii U really only has to break even or show nominal profit (which Nintendo should be able to make from sales of its own titles on the platform) to justify their next console. Even if the Wii U is a minor loss, it's not going to force Nintendo to exit the console business.

If you've been here 8 years did you not notice the arrogance of Nintendo fanboys when the Wii and DS were doing so well then?

What comes around goes around...

Kind of hard for anyone who was active on VGC for that long to forget.

The smugness and ridiculous statements made riding the coattails of the Wii's success had the unbelievable effect of making me want to minimize the use of the console when it completely got out of hand.

It's easy for some to forget because by 2010, all that talk was gone, along with almost all of the VGC users who were the worst of the bunch.

Certainly not this thread

The Vita has been profitable for Sony? Serious question.

Yeah, I could make a fairly good list over obnoxious Nintendo fans from back in the day. Quite a few names spring to mind, they truly were no better than anything we're seeing in the 8th gen.

How could selling 80 million units for both MS and Sony not turn a profit when Nintendo, the company that has been in the console business the longest, only surpassed that mark ONCE with the Wii?

Simple. PS3 and 360 were sold at a loss by tremendous margin when they launched. I've heard some people on this site claim Sony took as much as a $200 loss on each launch PS3 sold, though I take that with a grain of salt. Nintendo consoles are traditionally made to be profitable from Day 1. The Wii U was planned to be right around the baseline with it cutting close to even after a 1-2 game attach rate, and the 3DS was originally supposed to be Day 1 profitable when it launched at $250, but Nintendo took a big loss on each sold after the price was quickly slashed to $170.

The reason why last gen was so long was because Sony and MS planned for their consoles to have long lifespans and wanted to stretch it out and recoup as much money as possible.
