Surely Vita autopsies are doing a fairly good job? :D

Firstly, the PS4 is the console that will dominate this holiday, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

Secondly, other consoles have plenty of games for kids as well. Or do games like Littlebigplanet, Knack, Viva Pinata, Zoo Tycoon etc not count anymore?

Little Big Planet is the only one dude. But do  5 years old have packback's of their character's? Mario is almost as iconic as Mickey HUGE difference bro

So you're just going to completely ignore the other games I listed? And who cares how popular they are, you just said Nintendo were the only ones to cater for kids at all which obviously isn't true.

He has a point, though, which my kids proved to me only this week. They've never heard of any of the games you listed, and they only want a Playstation for Fifa and Minecraft, which, in terms of popularity and success, are in a similar league to Mario.

That wasn't even his original point. His exact words were

'They are the ONLY console that gives two shits about the kids.'

Now that's been proven wrong since Sony and Microsoft actually do make games for kids he is just trying to deflect it and say they aren't popular enough or something like that.

PS4 will do well over the holiday, but not because of the kids games.  Nintendo is the only one that makes kids games its primary focus.

Going from a 100mil console to selling worse than GC is a failure no matter how one wants to spin it. That is about an 80% drop. These threads will stop when people stop lying to themselves and accept

If you say so...

I can't believe my eyes.

Also; keep the comments in line, there are a couple of borderline posts in here.

Wii U will be fine. It might end up around or a little below GameCube's final total, but that doesn't matter. Every console generation is different. What matters is whether the people who own Wii U's are buying lots of games and spending their money on Nintendo's software and accessories. Even if the Wii U only reaches ten million in the US LTD by 2017, what will make the difference between financial success or failure will be how engaged the player base is. If Wii U has a high attach rate and lots of customers are buying DLC and accessories, then Nintendo can profit from Wii U.

No, it isn't. If the profits are big then yeah that would be succesful. But what is the point in making a console and spending a lot of money on it if the profit at the end is only going to be small?

It either has to make a BIG profit by itself, or sell enough consoles and gain enough brand awareness to greatly increase the chance of big profits from the next console.

You are wrong .....all companies are in business to make a profit at the end of the day and your way of thinking is way off...consoles does not make gaming companies profitable it is software .....do you think Microsoft or Sony are happy that they sold 80,000,000 consoles and did not start making a profit until year 5 or 6 of its release and still haven't made a profit at the end of the generation.....and too your question what's the point of making a console and at the end of the day if  it doesn't make a profit....it makes no sense ..that is why Nintendo is always gonna be around because they are a very smart company......Profits >over how many consoles we sell or coming in first or second place.....why do you think they have billions in the bank...no debt  and that is sound business sense they could care less where they finish

The last few years of the PS3 it was making profit, besides that if it wasn't for the 80 million consoles that the PS3 sold and the support it received from Sony the PS4 wouldn't be doing as well as it is.

I'm right. Any company that is smart would favour long term profitability over a one off profit. That is what selling 80 million consoles has given Sony. Now the PS4 looks set to further that and make the initial investment even more worthwhile.

But Sony doesn't even have profitabilty in the long or short term. Even the PS division hardly makes any money or even loses it the case of last year when it lost 78 million. Nintendo had been profitable its entire history except the last couple years and that was his point I believe they know how plan for the long term.  Fanboys get way too wrapped up in how many units their favorite console moves over a certain time span and it the end that doesn't matter because if you don't make any money then its pointless how many you sell. Look at MS they have never made even a dollar of the Xbox brand and in fact they lost about 2 billlion dollars according to that report last year.

People are going to move goalposts and change defintion to make things look better. Its nature. When WIi was winning nobody brought up the profit thing. They didnt need too. Numbers were clear. Now that they are on a fast track to dead last some wanna change the defintion of what a failure is.

The reason why they bring up profit because it was their cash cow. Everyone knew it was the GameCube with motion controls did not lose any money at launch because they spent little money into the hardware itself.

Well, when they discovered that thanks to XB360 and PS3 prices they could even price the Wii $250 at launch instead of the planned $200 and still be the cheapest by far, they could have used 40 of those extra $50 to add some main RAM and make the WiiMote an actual WiiMote Plus, as they initial PR had hinted, befor they settled for the less precise original WiiMote. More main RAM would have made ports from other platforms easier and WMPlus capabilities since the start would have made its use appealing also for 3rd parties, allowing not only the most casual games, but also more hardcore ones, all this togeher could have allowed Wii to live one more year before replacement, not only selling more, but triggering also a virtuous circle for Wii U HW capabilities and costs and for the whole Wii brand name, as launching one year later could have allowed to equip it, for the same costs or a little lower, with more main RAM and a little more more computing power (again making ports easier, even not pushing graphics as much as competitors, so keeping native dev costs lower), while one year later also the Upad's screen cost would have been lower, thanks to economies of scale brought by tablets, phablets and lage smartphones, while a Wii brand still in a better shape would have granted Wii U a better start.
