Forums - Gaming - Is 2014 the least impressive year in gaming history?

I disagree. This year has had amazing games being released, like Infamous: Second Son (By far the best and most fun game in the series), Shadow Of Mordor (Heard that its very good), Forza Horizon 2 (Heard that its amazing) and Driveclub (The gameplay is awesome, even though the game isn't up to its full potential because the servers aren't working well).

Nintendo had an amazing 2014, and will have an even better 2015. And that's just me looking at the Wii U games only, add the 3DS and it gets a little overwhelming how many great titles I have to play.

You can't be serious.

Mass Effect 3

Pokemon Black & White

Halo 4

Dragon's Dogma

Dragon Quest X

Kingdom Hearts 3D

Bravely Default

We're talking about some of the greatest games in the last years, not Watchdogs or Destiny :)

He is serious, and don't call him shirley

Black & White were released in 2010/2011. Black & White 2 were released in 2012... most players don't even consider them as good as Black & White, although the World Tournament was cool.

We can't really comment on Bravely Default since most (if not all) of the users here have only played For The Sequel, the 'upgraded' version of the game. The original was lacking several features that were widely praised or taken for granted in the final release. For instance, the ability to adjust the difficulty level and encounter rate was added in For The Sequel, and the original release had only one save file as opposed to three. Even though the excellent core mechanics of the game were all there to begin with, there's no telling how well the game would have been received had that been the version released in the West.

The rest are good, but... not exactly jaw-droppingly amazing. The fact that The Walking Dead won most of the GOTY awards for 2012 speaks volumes about the pickings that year.

Also, you forgot Journey, one of my favorites from that year.

Wow, Nintendo, what the actual fuck? They're actually calling the new LOZ game just "Zelda"? As if the Smash bros. names weren't stupid enough. Whoever the hell is naming titles over there should have been fired a long time ago.

(this is a joke just in case)

Of course that's not going to be the game's final name...It's actual name will be Zelda U!

Games are getting way overhyped in my opinion.

I think the last 7-8 years have been pretty bad if I'm honest... But, yes, 2014 has been a shit year for gaming imo.

Jesus, 7-8 years? May I ask then: why do you still even bother with this hobby? o_O

There are still great games being made, just pretty few of them compared to earlier generations, in my opinion. This is mostly a problem for console games and the 7th gen turned me more or less completely away from console gaming due to all the overhyped, shallow, poorly written games riddled with QTE's, handholding-mechanics and ridiculous lack of originality and thought. I wrote a rather extensive post on that very subject in the UNITY thread, actually.

Well I love Destiny more than most games I can remember so that is a big plus. But no 2014 is not the worst in history. All 1st years of each gen are a little slim. Remember last gen? It was Holiday 2007 when the 1st few game changers arrived (CoD 4 and AC) on 360 and PS3 there was very little in their 1st 12 months (Halo 3 launched like 22 months after 360 did)

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

I am enjoying 2014 as a gamer.

I don't think that has been a problem for consoles, the exclusives and certain multiplats were amazing. Each year had some of them, but compared to that 2014 has indeed been rather underwhelming.n But next year things might change.

i don't know, i agree that games were way over hyped, but having both a ps4 and /WiiU i have games to play that are fun and good. TLoU i got to play finally, skipped it on my ps3 was originally waiting for it to drop around 20$ for the ps3 but got it for the ps4, while alot of people shit on Destiny im enjoying it. then there's MK8 and Bayonetta both of which are good games, and hopefully soon SSB. But there have been disappointments as well Titanfall wasnt that good at all, Watch Dogs was boring after a little while, Infamous SS while fun wasn't nearly as good as Infamous 2,,

I completely disagree. Infamous: second Son was the first truly awesome game in the series, in terms of fun and action it far surpassed the likes of Infamous 2. You could say that the story and protagonist weren't as good, but the gameplay itself was very fun.
