Well I love Destiny more than most games I can remember so that is a big plus. But no 2014 is not the worst in history. All 1st years of each gen are a little slim. Remember last gen? It was Holiday 2007 when the 1st few game changers arrived (CoD 4 and AC) on 360 and PS3 there was very little in their 1st 12 months (Halo 3 launched like 22 months after 360 did)
End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)
Wii- 72 million 3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases
360- 37 million Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak
PS3- 29 million Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut
