Handhelds doesnt count?

I find that Sony fans often ignore the Vita, apparently profits from portable platforms doesn't matter. However, when we look at Nintendo's success handhelds are always taken into consideration.

Playstation is still a huge brand, but given the failure of Vita the brand is losing steam. The market is changing and there is less demand for dedicated gaming machines.

What, you attribute the failure of the Vita to that the PS brand is losing steam? I'd say that must be the smallest reason that Vita sales are abysmal.

Since portable and homeconsole gaming are two completely different markets it makes perfect sense to not include handhelds in this.

The PSP's success was attributed to the strength of the Playstation. The failure of the Vita is an indication that Playstation has lost relevance in mobile gaming. Its unlikely the home console will compensate for those sales, but I could be wrong.

Those are different markets but the profits go to the same place and they part of the same brand.

So what you meant to say was "Playstation as a handheld brand has lost steam"?

Yes, but we aren't discussing Playstation profits, we're discussing Sony's homeconsole sales/brand strength.

Not just the fans...

Given the huge success of the PS4, the PS brand isn't losing any steam at all.

Well they certainly lost steam in mobile gaming. I don't think the PS4's success is gonna compensate for losing that market.

Also does that mean if the PS4 dosent sell 115 Mil than it is a failure?

Well PS3 sold significantly less than PS2 but its not considered a failure. It still had a large userbase and moved a ton of software.

The Vita is a genuine failure because of weak support, small userbase, and abysmal sales with little potential of improvment.

The 360 is the reason why the PS3 sold less. It halved the marketshare sony previously had grown. Thats where the massive wealth of gamers ms amassed came from. The only real growth last gen to the overall market came from the wii and mobile games.  All consoles were a sucess but im sure they wanted to do bigger things in other areas where they previously had been lacking.

Biggest and best brand in gaming history. That's why.

PS3 will reach 100M in a few years.
PS4 will definitely reach 100M, I can see it do ~115M a few years after PS5 launch.

2-30 percent of Playstation console sales come after a new gen.

Also most people in the world outside the US refer to gaming consoles as "the playstation". Like moms say "put down that playstation son and go to bed!"

They wish they sold that many consoles each gen.

Not too sure about that one. In my experience, most people who aren't familiar with brands just call them video games and then go on a diatribe about Pacman.
