No it is not. It is the same CPU but overclocked due to the extra overhead of the OS. It even performs worse with the higher clock if the benchmarks floating around are true, I didn't look into it. PS4 cpu can be overclocked anytime if there is a need for it. One CPU was overclocked at the later stages of the development cycle to keep up with the OS.

Also framerate is a function of what you are describing, not resolution. It is nice that you claim to know how things work, but just because you are saying things, it doesn't mean they are true.

Stick with neutrality though.

Why do you think it was overclocked because of the OS? Any source for this?

After checking the original quote it seems that the overhead they are talking about is not related to the OS but the overhead in the CPU.

"Now it seems that additional overhead was found once Microsoft got its hand on production silicon, with the CPU component able to run at 1.75GHz, compared to the initial 1.6GHz target. "

I thought that sentence meant that once extra overhead was found, they needed to overclock the CPU. Sorry about that.

Though the OS had a lot of performance problems at the launch, weren't they? That is after increasing the clock speed. It seems obvious that if it wasn't or the increase it would be worse. Though this is speculation on my part. Also I checked a few sources and they say the PS4 Cpu performs better despite the clockrate difference, which would only be explained by the OS performance.

Oh, no problem, I thought I missed something. If either CPU is more performant than the other we won't know until there is anyone who provides a good benchmark with much more detail than the one everyone is referring to.

The debates and arguments on this site sometimes I find to be more ridiculous than the actual original controversy.

You can still be a fan of Sony, and criticize them and the PS fans.

First off, I think its flat out hypocritic if anyone on VGC claims they aren't a fanboy of some sort. Its pretty much a requirement to be on here. But then again, especially considering that this place is a "cesspool of fanboys" its actually pretty civil compared to the sporadic fanboy bursts you may see on other sites. I like to think of it as organized chaos.

In light of all that, the ACU "meltdown" doesn't surprise me one bit. Fanboys have a way of simply being for or against. It doesn't matter what is right or what is wrong, what they know or what they don't; all that matters is if they are for or against. Again, another requirement. If you can get that, then its pretty easy to filter out the sane from the insane.

I will put it this way. For the record, its not about 900p/1080p. Its not even about parity. Its about parity in the wrong direction and the admittance of such. If Ubisoft got ACU to run at 1080p, I doubt PS fans would be saying the game should run at 1440p on the PS4. If both games ran at 900p, then the PS4 fans would look at textures or shadow or geometry details to get there "ours is better fix" and everything would still be ok. THE PROBLEM, is that ubisoft admitted to making one version worse so it is on par with another version. And more so claiming that they did that to make everyone happy.

Now back to fanboyism, if you look at the facts above and somehow have a problem with PS fans taking the stance they have, then it means you are most like an XB/nintendo fan; cause lets be honest... how wrong that whole thing is obvious except to those that are not interested in facts or right or wrong but more interested in sides.

The way I see it, I really would just like gamers to be at least united when it comes to certain things. Its almost as if gamers forget that they actually pay for these things. Its not like these things are given to us for free. Time and time again platform holders and publishers have shown just how much they are willing to fuck us over if we let them. To me, its all about winning the little battles, the only way these companies will listen to and/or respect their customers is if you take money outta their pockets. I don't mind the infighting between fans, but I would like to think that when it comes to certain industry wide problems, we would at least stand united.

Its simply a method of priority control. If you have fellow gamers as your top priority then the consoles and the companies aren't really that important.

As for the bolded I partly agree. The key aspect of what constitutes a fanboy in my opinion is not just a blind allegiance to one console, but rather the delusion that they are somehow better than gamers on a different platform and their platform is morally superior to the competiton.

Everyone has their preferences, but their is a difference between dislike an entity's actions, and disliking an entity because of those actions.

Every single fanbase would react the same way, regardless of the situation, and to recognize some sort of difference is biased in and of itself.

As for italics, well there is nothing more to add for that one.

@OP: I'll address you later.

I don't want to associate with those people anymore and I don't want to be associated with them. I still want to take jabs at every game manufacturer but where being called a fanboy was once a medal for me to wear is now a painful reminder what kind of people are out there.

So I renounce my faith. I will no longer be a fanboy of any console. I will now fight the good war against everything and for everything as I please.

So don't call me a fanboy or a hater as I will love and hate everything equally. "Asshole", "dick" and "unstoppable love machine" will suffice.

It is ok to feel, everyone has a heart. Well, except me ofc...I have a murder bag.

But if you truly want to renounce your faith, then you have to open your eyes to the realities of the situation. The companies are in a constant state of flux, but the consumer should always be considered first regardless of the performance of a company. The only degree to have some concern is when a company's performance puts gamers or gaming at risk.

Yeah it doesn't look like a reliable benchmark at all ( and there many more variables). What we know is that they are pretty much the same CPUs with very little custom modification apart from the overclocking. Though how they perform considering all the variables is a difficult thing to measure.

But I'm a Nintendo Fanboy because that's where I have my handheld and home conoles from, and I haven't bought a PC game in a long time since its a hassle and likely causes problems(it did in the past) if you don't have an ultra expensive gaming PC.

I just have a simple laptop. So I game mostly on Nintendo....cos.....games.

I don't see how you can call it a "fanboy meltdown" for being upset at Ubisoft over what they revealed. Even if platform agnostic you should smell the bullshit.  If you are against the "meltdown" I think you're agnostic to bullshit.  If you defend Ubisoft then I think you are supporting bullshit due to console party lines (i.e. being a fanboy).
