It is exactly what is happening.

Again the only people that says the game is not good (because even reviews says it is good) are the ones that didn't played it in niche forums like VGC.

Uh, no.

Anecdotal evidence is pointless. The general reviews, the things that people see, were not positive, so people who didn't follow the hype but who research a game (ie. the people who don't follow hype) will see those reviews. They won't see your opinion, or mine, or my friend's opinion. So the forum opinion, here or otherwise, is not out of tune with the reviewer opinion.

If we want anecdotes, here's one: Friend went out and bought Destiny and X1 with the Madden bundle. His opinion? Meh. What happened? Everyone in our circle of friends said, "Oh well, wait for Halo." Does that mean that this is indicative of the world over? Obviously not. No anecdotal evidence ever is and as much as people want to throw out established review opinions, they matter more in the end and they have been anything but positive or encouraging.

So you are saying @prinz_valium is wrong... I agree.

BTW word of mouth > reviews... that never changed... that is why CoD sells even with bad reviews.

PS. Your friends issues was the Xbone... not the game... my Xbones friends are having a painful task to find others guys to play because most of the gamers goes with PS4 this gen... there is a site created to find Xbone guys to Raid/Strikes... Bungie didn't help gamers in the social stuffs.

No I am saying both of you are wrong, for different reasons.

Anecdotal evidence is bad, anecdotal evidence as per the forums relating to this game just so happens to correspond to the general review response to the game. That doesn't make using it anymore wrong but it so happens to actually be in tune with reality this time around.

Anyone who thinks that the game is being showered with praise, conversely, is not only using bad anecdotal evidence and seeking confirmation bias, they are living in a different dimension where some other game launched. Destiny has not received good press nor did it make a good impression out the gate, that is something that will stick with it to the end of its gamelife.

CoD sells because it is an established multiplayer franchise that does what it does, and people expect it to do what it has always done. Reviews don't generally play a part because people aren't discussing its merits or otherwise, they are simply saying "Getting the next CoD to play on Live/PS+?" "Ya, you?" "Yup!". In fact, when it releases and when MCC release, I can see Destiny becoming a barren wasteland because the PvP is the only thing holding up the flimsy excuse for a game that it is.

You just said what I said in this thread

People are getting some individual hate and the reviews hate over internet and thinking overall gamers are hating the game... it is the opposite... there are a lot of gamers loving the game and most people that hate seems to never played it.

BTW the reviews are good... average 8.

Destiny is a leg game... sales won't drop.

PS4 alone will do over 5 million.

Mario Kart didn't have userbase for that.

wut?

no good reviews.

and there is no way it will do 5m on ps4 alone until end of 2014.

At least 52 good/positive reviews...http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/destiny/critic-reviews

Want to bet?

easy bet. but we wont get actual numbers. so what to use? vgc + obligatory +10% digital?

4.5m vgc number to be 5m+ overall

why bother with the 10% digital.  A) that is a baseless assumption and B) xbox one and ps4 have the highest digital distribution sales rates of any console so whatever you think you're going to add to mk sales the reality is destiny's contribution is even higher.

why should i not bother about 500k sales?

and the assumption is not baseless.

watch_dogs did ~ 10% of its sales digital on next gen consoles

and i did not even talked about mk sales, just destiny ps4 numbers

A 77 is not an 80. This isn't the US education system, we don't need to bullshit our numbers. That's C territory, its certainly not "bad" but its certainly not "good" either, its average. (And the user reviews here and on Amzon are far worse...)

You generally have no evidence to support your claim of "positive word of mouth" no more than I have to support my claim of "negative word of mouth" or otherwise.

?

Sorry but 7.7 is rounded to 8 and not 7 lol

If I'm not wrong the reviews use a 1-10 grade scale... so the average is 8... and what that means?

But you are right we can count the reviews:

41 reviews give 8+
37 reviews give 8-

More reviewers give a 8 or more score to Destiny than reviewers give a score below 8.

lol

because "So, Destiny for PS4 < Mario kart 8" is the same bet as "So, Destiny for PS4 * 1.1 < Mario kart 8 * 1.1"...
